How did you choose a creative path?

Deciding to pursue an artistic or creative career path isn’t for the faint of heart. Challenges will abound, but so many of the artists we speak with couldn’t be happier with their choice. So, we asked them about how they made the decision in the first place.

I chose a career in photography because it allows me to express how I see the world in a way that words often can’t capture. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of freezing a moment in time, telling a story through light, shadow, and perspective. What I love most about photography is how unique each artist’s vision can be—no two photographers will ever see or capture the same subject in exactly the same way. I think we all have hidden talents. Sometimes it can take many years to find your niche. I was never artistic growing up. I cannot draw, to save my life. My mother and my youngest daughter are extremely gifted when it comes to freehand.
I was living in an apartment and one day maintenance tore down a bird’s nest that a pair of swallows had built so while researching how to make a bird’s nest, I saw a video of resin art, and I thought that was really cool. I tried it one time and I have never looked back. Read More>>

Interestingly, I didn’t pursue the art career at all when I was young even though I had a talent. In fact, I was running away from it because I knew that drawing and painting would not pay the bills. And since I was running away from the only thing I liked, I struggled to find my place in the professional world. Until, I became an accountant. I didn’t even like math.
Years later, I picked up a pencil and a paper and started sketching. It was like rewiring my brain again to see the world in colors and on a tip of a brush. Read More>>

I pursued a creative career because I believe art is one of the most honest languages we have. It’s a lens that lets us look at the world differently. Where others might see the mundane, art reveals the extraordinary. Photography, for me, became a way to translate the unspoken.
