Expectation is the root of suffering. I’ve learned that rejection is often protection—or a redirection—toward something more aligned with my truth, rather than what my ego thinks it wants. When I expect things to unfold in a very specific way, I tend to feel disappointed, because I’m trying to control outcomes that are simply beyond my control. To get out of my own way. In whatever way is appropriate in the given situation. Sometimes it is imposter syndrome, other times it is being a willing participant to be on the other side of the camera. Excuses are easier sometimes than actually getting out of our own way. The reality is that people hire me because of MY vision, MY art, not because it looks like (insert other amazing photographer). Not only do I deserve to be in the frames on my walls, I owe it to my children to be in the albums that they will look at in 30 years when they want to remember their childhood.
