We had the good fortune of connecting with Juan Jose Martinez and Luis Mc Gregor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juan Jose and Luis, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Brasa Rosticería is a chicken rotisserie restaurant located in Calle 22 223, Colonia Mexico Oriente. Luis Mc Gregor and Juan Jose Martinez are the owners and we are two Peruvians who migrated to Merida to start this business that began as a dream and now we have made it a reality, We leave our families behind to build a solid company in the Mexican market.

The gastronomic sector has been hit hard by the Covid19 pandemic. Many restaurants, had to close, most of them had to reduce their capacity and some had to move to smaller premises or simply focus on delivery service.

We took advantage of these opportunities. We saw great locations to rent with lower prices and a location where our customers have a nice place to eat
In Merida, the taste of chicken is very similar in all rotisseries or grilled restaurants. Brasa Rosticeria offer a new flavor, similar to the peruvian style, not only the chicken, also with the dressings, rice, french fries, flautas and desserts. We use family recipes and offer a unique seasoning in all of our products

Also, and more important, offering a high quality products, Whenever you go to a rotisserie or grilled chicken, the presentation is not what the customer deserves. They don´t have high quality standard process.
Finally, we are proud to announce we use ecological/recyclable packaging and we are considered an Ecofriendly company.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Juan Jose Martinez has a degree in advertising with commercial experience in the retail, automotive and textile sectors for 15 years. Luis Mc Gregor was in the gastronomic sector for 8 years and in aviation for more than 10 years. Both of us are from Lima, Peru. The pandemic and the political and economic problems in our country made us look for new business opportunities. In 2019 Luis began market research in Mérida, then the pandemic came and the project had to stop. In 2021 Juan Jose joined to start this business

We came here to succeed, failure is not an option. In the future, Brasa Rosticeria will open several franchises and become the best rotisserie chicken restaurant in Mexico, starting with Yucatan.

To be succeed in buisness you need 3 things,

First one, eliminate the fear of failure, make a good business plan so as not to be surprise, in every process you will have obstacles, the world moves and changes, but you should never be afraid of failure, fear paralyzes you.

Combine perseverance and passion. As owners, we are the first ones to arrive and the last ones to leave. We work 24/7 without stopping. And passion helps us to remain constant, to give our clients the service they deserve, they feel very comfortable with us. We are thankfull that we have the energy to continue attracting good things.

Last but no least, teamwork, between both business partners has been a core pillar in our business, having an admirable synergy.. Each one has different skills and personalities, one sees administration, customer service and systems, while the other oversees cooking, marketing and organizing orders. We both make the important decisions for the restaurant and the staff. In the kitchen we work like a Swiss watch thanks to our processes.

They will remember us as 2 great entrepreneurs, who had the vision of a great business, the intelligence to make it happen, the strength to build it and the guts to sacrifice the most important thing, such as being away from the family, all for a bigger goal. … the well-being for those you love the most.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Merida is a very attractive city, we have beaches just 25 minutes from the city. The people are very kind. If a friend comes to the city, he would start by visiting the center of Merida. Paseo Montejo is a very touristic avenue, you have several restaurants and cafes. One of its attractions is the Monumento de la Bandera, an emblematic place in the city, something that you should try anyway on your tour are the marquesitas, a typical sweet of the city, you can order it in many ways.

Also have several places to visit near the center, if you want to go for a night out you can go to the Santa Lucia park, where you find several outdoor venues to enjoy a cold beer or a Michelada, a popular drink, and on weekends you find music live.
You have very good restaurants, the most we like is on Calle 47, we started with Oliva Enoteca (Italian food), Catrin (Mexican food), Micaela Mar y Leña (seafood and meat) and 130° steakhouse (grilled meat). Obviously one of the places to have lunch would be Brasa Rosticeria located in the Mexico Oriente neighborhood, where you can try a delicious roast chicken. But if you come to any city in Mexico you have to eat the famous local Tacos, which you can find throughout the city in different presentations.

Then we would visit the north part of the city where you will find modern buildings and fun places at night. One of the best known avenues is Andres Garcia Lavin, in it you will find several shopping malls and in each one of them places to have a great time, to mention a few places, we have G.O.A.T. (lounge), La Inolvidable (bar and live music), Pamplona Bar and Grill. If we continue along the avenue passing the Periferico we arrive at a shopping center that has several bars and restaurants overlooking the lake.

Finally, visit the Malecon Progreso, one of the most touristic areas on the beach with many restaurants. The specialty is fish and shellfish; all of them are in front of the sea. Another of the attractions of the city are the cenotes, the one I recommend is the Mucuyché hacienda cenotes, located 55 minutes from the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We want to be an example for all entrepreneurs, for our families, especially for our childrens. In order for them to see how hard we work, with effort, dedication and passion, everything can be achieved. We leave our families behind to build a solid company in the Mexican market. Brasa Rosticería is going to become a great franchise.

We want to thanks the entire team at Brasa Rosticeria who works very hard every day,
Also to our family who has the strength to support us from a distance, missing us every day
