Meet Aaron Olson | Creative Adventurer and Overlander

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron Olson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aaron, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Bigman Overland was born out of a desire to capture memories with my family. My kids love watching YouTube videos, and over time they persisted on starting a channel. So, out of a desire to make memories with my kids, and give them the opportunity to learn how to film, edit, and build confidence in front of a camera all while exploring the outdoors – Bigman Overland was born.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Success isn’t something I’m striving for to be honest. Hard work pays off, there is no doubt about that. You can hustle your way to success. Me, however? I am not a skilled filmmaker. I am not even the most creative mind. What I create is for the joy of my family. Bigman Overland isn’t about the hustle and achieving success. Bigman Overland is about the memories along the way. It’s about the journey, not the destination.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There is a beautiful lake just north of Glenwood Springs along Transfer Trail. Bald Eagles are soaring. The air is clean and crisp. The Flat Tops Wilderness is unlike anything else in Colorado. There is something so alien about it, yet welcoming and carries a sense of ‘home’. This is where I would take my best friend. Camp along the lake side, hearing the crackle of the fire while eating delicious meals – and let’s be honest, food always tastes better around a campfire in the mountains.

This is a place where you fish, ride your ATV or dirt bike, and just enjoy the great outdoors that Colorado offers. Fill your belly with some steak and potatoes, and then go out and ride some more. And when you are done riding, you relax by the lake with a crisp, cold drink of your choosing. There is nothing better.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my family. My wife Chelsea of 15 years, who encourages me to go into the outdoors and pursue the things I love. To my kids, Hadlee, Calli, Baker, and Bennett who I wake up each morning and give everything I have to the day so they see that persistence, hard work, and kindness create unimaginable opportunities.
