We had the good fortune of connecting with Abbey Olson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abbey, why did you pursue a creative career?
While in high school I enrolled in the connecting hairstyling course, I enjoyed playing with hair and thought it would be nice to get some graduating credits doing just that. I quickly realized the integration of a creative career path for my future. There was suddenly an option where hard work and education was connected with something organic and artistic. I knew that was where my heart wanted to be.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Art comes in many forms, and it turns out hair as a medium opens up an amazing world. Nothing felt better than seeing that amazing spark in someones eyes after receiving a beautiful hair transformation and knowing I was the one to gift that to them. I chose to invest my time into women’s hair as I believe there is something almost sacred about holding a space for women to feel vulnerable and embody the best possible version of themselves.

I was immediately intrigued with hair health and hair extensions and what the two together could do for my clients. First it was the long mermaid hair that drew me in, the quick transformations, and stunning thickness! Beforehand I mentioned the vulnerability that goes into this craft; every guest that sits in my chair will confide in me with any given hair issue and with the knowledge of hair care and extensions I have been able to give solutions for countless women! This path has allowed me to guide many that have struggled with thin hair, health issues, or just needing a change in order to feel more like themselves. To me that is something truly special.

So special I needed to learn more and as much as I possibly could. The simple beauty school I went to would not cut it for me. Many hours have been spent studying product lines and finding the safest possible extension method available. The ability to stay continually curious has always been a driving factor in my success and we must always keep an open mind to our own capabilities.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a dear friend visiting for an entire week I would take them straight to the mountains to one of our amazing hot springs here in Colorado. Strawberry hot springs in Steamboat is always a go to for me. We would be sure to check out a small local restaurant and walk the small downtown area. The nature we have here is breath taking and I think everyone needs to experience it, even a simple stroll through the mountains will be enough to calm your mind.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a special shout out to Carson & Co Salon and its owner Yasamin Taraghi. I have taken my dreams and ran with them and she has always been an unwavering source of support and inspiration; both in my buisness and personal development.
