Meet Adam Bates | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Bates and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adam, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I think the biggest thing that people outside of the industry are unaware of is that it is more than just pressing a button. It is about making sure the photo tells the story you are trying to tell. Some times its even about being in the right place at the right time. Setting up and waiting for everything to align. Waiting planning and hoping for everything to go exactly the way you are hoping for to capture a moment that will be gone in a matter of a second. It doesnt matter if you are doing an event , portairts, or sports, its our job to capture that special moment.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe the best way to discribe my art is Natural. In the day and age of editing the subject until it looks like something completely different my focus is on the composition of the photo. Can I tell my audience exactly what is happening. Can I get the audience to see what I see. To feel what I feel. Id rather provoke emotion, RAW emotion!
I am most proud of my ability to capture photos in just about any setting. Ive done sporting events, headshots, graduations, maternity, and birthdays. In all of it I have been able to stay true to my self, stay true to my brand, and capture images that I can be proud of.
Now getting here was not easy. I have missed out on family events. Ive missed out on outings with friends. You will hardly ever see me in a photo because I am behind the camera but its a calling its a passion.
Its a passion that has taught me so many lessons. most importantly. Beauty in this world can be found almost anywhere you are willing to look. Search for it, find it, chase after it. You may have to put your self out there, take some risks, try different angles to get the right shot, but thats life right.
In terms of my story, I would like the world to Unconditional Photography is more than just me. It is the love of myself, the love of my family, and the love of photography. Every click of the shutter is an attempt to capture the best of the moment that I can capture. I want the world to feel things when they see my photos. I want them to be happy, sad, excited, invoke curiosity. Most of all I want them to feel my love for what I am capturing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting we would probably hike, golf, and spend time in the house with the family. Id more than likely end up on the grill at some point but thats about it. Me and my friends are flashy or anything like that. We like to stay within our self and just enjoy the world around us.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family. My wife Dana, my daughter Peyton, my son Genesis, and my daughter Dakota. They have sacrificed time with me. Late nights and early mornings. They have supported me and have always cheered me on whenever a photoshoot has come up. I would be nothing with out them.
