Meet Alejandra Sosa | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alejandra Sosa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alejandra, what role has risk played in your life or career?
For me, taking risks is what this photography industry is all about. I quit my stable job of managing a restaurant to pursue photography full time. It was a really scary moment for me, to leave behind my stability and comfort zone to jump into a field I was really new to. Every day I’m trying new things even if I’ve had failures in the past. In order to be creative and stand out, I’m forced to take risks everyday. It really keeps this job exciting.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from a few others is that I did it all on my own in regards to my business. I jumped into photography alone with no mentors. I watched youtube videos and slowly started learning how to use my first camera. I registered my business alone and until this day I do everything by myself. I think I might’ve grown quicker if I asked for more help in the photography world. This isn’t to say beginner photographers are less because they have help, I just think its important to note that I struggled a lot to get here because I was alone in the process. It makes me a little more proud of my work because I had all the ups and downs, but conquered them and continue to do so today. It’s extremely tough to be a female business owner and be taken seriously in a professional manner.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take my friends to Boulder. It’s a beautiful town with gorgeous views and easy access to the mountains. We would go eat at my favorite spot for margs, The Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant. We’d visit the Boulder creek and swim. I’d probably take them out for a fun night in Denver as well to a spot with a rooftop bar or to a latin spot like Lime. My idea of fun is being around live music, so I’d make sure to take them to a local club where there is live Mexican bands.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout the support of my family and loved ones. Without their support, I wouldn’t have the confidence to do what I do. They support me unconditionally and I think every person needs a team behind them. I have a really solid and diverse support system that I can ask for help whenever I need to. They deserve the most credit in my story because I wouldn’t even have pursued the career of a photographer if it wasn’t for them standing behind me and cheering me on in the beginning when I was first learning about this industry. My work probably wasn’t even great at first, but they believed in me and knew I would improve and get better with time. That’s really important to me.
