Meet Alex Beyers | Holistic Wellness Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Beyers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started Eating At Altitude, I started it as a hobby. As someone who spent too many years in diet mode: restricting, binging and compensating for food with crazy fitness regiments. I finally saw the light in 2014 after I ditched diet culture and learned how to feed my body in a way that fuels it without restriction or guilt, Eating in a holistic way completely reframed how I viewed food, and what I viewed as healthy.
I started my blog eatingataltitude.com to share my discovery with others. Eating well had allowed me to gain more energy and function at a higher level in all aspects of life and I wanted others to have the same experience so I set out on a mission to share recipes made with whole foods that were more delicious and fun than the normal “diet foods”.
What started as a hobby, has turned into a business of sharing what I love, and helping find the way to their own healthy habits.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I created Eating At Altitude as a place to share healthy recipes that broke the mold of your typical grilled chicken & steamed broccoli meals. I share healthy, whole food twists on classic favorites like fried chicken sandwiches, loaded carnitas fries, even biscuits & gravy. The thing I get most excited about with my recipe creation is when someone makes a recipe and tells me they “can’t believe this is healthy”.
I create recipes and cook because that is what I love, but now that Eating At Altitude has transformed into a Wellness blog that not only focuses on good healthy foods, but also incorporates how to live a happy balanced life through mindful habits that serve your lifestyle. My primary clients are mom’s that are seeking to find balance, set good health & wellness for their children & feel confident in their skin again. I currently offer virtual wellness workshops that give busy women & multitasking mamas a roadmap to achieve this balance through mind, body & soul practices. Health is no longer just about food and fitness but should also include habits and practices that support a healthy mind, self care rituals and self love.
I struggled for years to find balance and my blog & workshops are a roadmap of how I achieved it and continue to maintain it. Now that I am a mother I’m an advocate for women prioritizing their wellness in a way that fits their lifestyle.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Here in Fort Collins we have an abundance of amazing local businesses that I showcase to all of our guests.
First up on the itinerary is always a brewery crawl: New Belgium, Funkwerks, Odell’s, & Intersect Brewery are a few of my favorites.
Next up, food. As a food blogger, I take my food very seriously. You will rarely find me eating at chain restaurants as I thrive on locally owned established especially when their ingredients are locally sourced. My FoCo Food Line up includes: Nick’s Italian or Pizza Vino for Pizza or Pasta. Rare Italian or The Farmhouse for date night spots. The Taco Stop for the best street style steak tacos. The Union Soda Shop for a fun weekend vibe and definitely the best burger in Fort Collins. The Emporium or Social for a classy happy hour. Bindle Coffee for coffee and breakfast sandwiches. And if you happen to be in Fort Collins on a Tuesday in the summer months, check out the Fort Collins Food Truck Rally in City Park.
Fort Collins backs up to Horse tooth Reservoir which offers amazing hikes, and paddle boarding. Old Town Fort Collins is a great area to walk around, shop & end up at The Exchange – an outdoor space surrounded by restaurants. (Try Foco Doco mini donuts!) It’s a great place to hang out.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to my husband who came up with the name of my blog turned business; Eating At Altitude. I wanted to showcase how eating well could elevate your life, and obviously with living in Colorado this became a complete play on words that I fell in love with immediately.
Additionally, I have an incredible business mentor. Susan Hay (@dameandheart) who has helped guide me in scaling my business from a food blog to a consulting service where I help other women reach their optimal health through mind, body & soul practices.
Lastly a huge thanks to all the women, family and friends in my community that have supported me every step of the way. Entrepreneurship is a hard road to navigate and every ounce of support is appreciated.
