Meet Becky Remley | Pediatric Sleep Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Becky Remley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Becky, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Sleep Solutions for Children was created out of necessity, after the birth of my first child. Prior to becoming a mom I knew very little about infant sleep and had very little education offered to me in our birthing classes or by my doctor. I knew I was not going to be sleeping very much once my baby arrived but that was about the extent of my knowledge.
My daughter was born and initially slept what I would describe as “intermittently decent.” My husband and I were losing sleep but there was a rhythm to the chaos and eventually, she was sleeping most of the night. Then around four months old, she stopped. It’s as simple as that, one night she didn’t fall asleep easily and everything we had put into place was out the door. We had no direction on how to fix her sleep ourselves and were downright exhausted trying to work full time jobs and stay up all night with a crying baby. We read books, blogs, asked questions in Facebook mom groups, and scoured the internet late at night for answers. None of them panned out.
We finally decided to hire a sleep consultant, who was located about 90 miles away. Soon my daughter was sleeping well again and the haze of sleep deprivation lifted. This experience opened my eyes to how common childhood sleep challenges are and how there really isn’t a consensus on how or when to seek help.
My own experience got me thinking – why are there no sleep consultants local to Northern Colorado? Why did nobody tell me sooner that there was help for infant sleep challenges? How are other families surviving without sleep for so many months and years?
Four months later I set off to Florida to receive my pediatric sleep certification and my business was born. Since my business opened in 2018, I have had the honor of helping hundreds of tired parents regain the sleep that they need to be happy and healthy once again.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sleep Solutions for Children in a Northern Colorado pediatric sleep practice that partners with tired parents to solve their child’s behavioral sleep challenges. My work with families starts as early as pregnancy, for parents looking to have a plan in place once their baby arrives. I specialize in preemie and newborn sleep shaping and education, infant sleep training, toddler sleep training, and sleep and parent coaching for children ages 4 to7 years old. I often work with mothers experiencing postpartum anxiety and postpartum depression, being exacerbated by sleep loss. My approach is gentle yet effective, never asking parents to engage in techniques they are not comfortable with, such as “cry it out” or “crying without comfort.” Parents not only are gaining advice from a certified expert but also from an experienced mom. I can’t think of a more important role that has prepared me to help other families improve their sleep.
What sets me apart from other sleep consultants is my personalized approach to supporting families. Almost all of my sleep consultations take place in each family’s home, for no extra cost. I find that most sleep coaching has gone partially if not all virtual and although this is a great option for families who live afar or prefer a more DIY approach, it limits my ability to build rapport and trust with families who are making a big investment and putting their faith in me to help solve their child’s sleep challenges. Most families I speak with are craving a coach who can give them in-person, real life support and hands on coaching that will get them results fast. In addition to hosting most of my meetings in person, I also offer bedtime support and full night support where I spend the entire night with a family and help them stay accountable, while coaching them through the sleep training process. I find this is especially helpful for parents who are very anxious about sleep training, have twins or multiples, single parents, and those who have very challenging sleep problems to solve.
I have something to offer all families, whether you are local to me or live in Denver or another state. All of my sleep services can be transformed into a virtual experience. Although not as personable as me coming to your home, I find that my virtual clients are equally happy with their experience and support by text, phone calls, and Zoom. I credit this successful outcome with the unwavering support I offer.
Helping families is my passion and I’m living my best life waking up every day knowing I get to change lives. I know that sounds silly – is sleep really life changing? On the surface it sounds like a luxury but sleep is a basic human need every child and parent should be getting, guilt free.
Looking back at my life 5 or 6 years ago, I couldn’t have ever imagined being a business owner AND getting to pursue my passion of helping people. I have learned many lessons along the way during these four years and have grown so much from who I was when I started out. The biggest challenge I have faced is finding balance in my work life and personal life and setting boundaries with my clients and family, so I can be my best in both roles. As a mom of two babies, life is as busy as ever, and I’ve learned sometimes the hard way that boundaries are essential to successfully being a mom and business owner.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a Fort Collins native, born and raised, so my perspective of Fort Collins is pretty well rounded. My favorite local restaurants are Caninos, The Silver Grill, and Ginger and Baker. Social and William Oliver’s Publick House are excellent choices for adult drinks and snacks. My family loves spending time together enjoying the Colorado mountains and walking and shopping in Old Town Fort Collins. If you have kids I would suggest stopping in the Clothes Pony while downtown. Be prepared to give them all of your money because you’ll need one of everything. If you’re a plant lover like me, stop by Gulley Greenhouse and the Fort Collins Nursery. You will spend an obnoxious amount of money on beautiful plants that you didn’t know you needed.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My business is heavily built on word of mouth recommendations and referrals from my past clients and colleagues in the birth and parenting world. Although there are many who have helped me on my business journey, Fort Collins doula, Julianne Curtis, has been my biggest supporter over the years. We met early on in my business, when Julianne was the president of a local doula association. We sat down for coffee to talk sleep and the rest is history. Over the last four years Julianne has been a huge influence on my success through referrals, encouragement, non profit work, and as my very own doula and dear friend.
