Meet Alexander Denner | Trigger Point Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexander Denner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexander, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process to starting my own business was sink or swim. When I ended my job with the last employer I’ll ever have everything was officially on me. If I could not create a clientele to generate enough income that provides food, rent and general expenses before my savings run out than I have “sank”. However, if I could create a small yet growing clientele through basic networking and exceptional service bringing enough income for basic needs with signs of financial increase each month than surly I would be “swimming”. These are the options I gave myself and put every ounce of waking effort into seeing my business swim and not sink.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Durango Movement is Trigger Point Therapy for outdoor enthusiasts. We use multiple message therapy techniques to assist in muscular recovery for athletic individuals. What sets Durango Movement apart from others is my attention to detail, endless education and hands-on technique that follows. When a client sits down and explains the physical difficulties they are going through I enjoy “piecing the puzzle together”. I always say “where the pain is the solution isn’t”. I believe there is a victim and a colpurate to all body aches and I like to locate the muscular imbalance causing the pain in order to accurately relieve the client’s troubled areas. What makes me most proud is how far I have come in my 12 years of practice. With the help from my beautiful wife, Jaclyn, we have successfully built something out of nothing and this practice is 100% our very own creation.
Pure passion is how we got to where we are today with our business. I love and respect this art more than anything so I took it as far as I can possibly go with no end in sight. There is always something new to learn and that may be what I enjoy the most. There was nothing easy about this journey, but I knew where my heart lied and with patience and consistency we were able to overcome all obstacles along the path.
I want the world to know that aside from my love and support from my family I came from very little. I worked almost every type of job that you can think of from kitchens/bars, retail, car dealerships, apartment maintenance, landscaping and the list goes on. I always knew that I wanted more, something that truly fulfilled me. When I was asked by my dear friend Nicolas Colantuoni what is it that I want most? My immediate answer was “I want to help people”. Once I truly acknowledged that fact I did everything I could to fulfill this desire and I exceeded far beyond my initial expectations. After 12 years I have performed over 8,000 bodywork sessions. Durango Movement alone has accumulated over 450 unique clients and each client has left my office feeling better than they ever could have imagined. Understanding how many people I have helped and continue to help fulfills me in ways I cannot express. This work has given my life outstanding purpose and reason. I want anyone reading this to understand that no matter where you are in life you absolutely can reach your goals, all you have to do is acknowledge them, then the journey begins.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Durango Colorado has some of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the Rockies. If anyone were to visit me I would immediately gear them up for a backpacking adventure to start their visit off right. To haul only your essential needs like food, water filtration, proper clothing and a tent miles upon miles in the backcountry is a thrill that is simply unmatched. The gift of disconnecting from society and reconnecting with Mother Earth and all her glory is without a doubt a life changing opportunity. I believe if more of us had this experience the world would be viewed with more kindness and respect. After a multi day reset in the wild I would then take my guest into the beautiful town of Durango. I would treat them to a one of a kind bodywork session with me, Alexander at Durango Movement to help repair all the aches and pains created from their journey across the mountains. To really spoil my guest I would introduce them to Jaclyn Denner at Deloro Salon to help them get freshened up for a night out in the town. Her work will leave you feeling like your absolute best self giving you newfound confidence as you continue to explore Colorado’s most adored mountain town. Afterwards, we could reminisce about our adventures over appetizers and a delicious craft beer at Carver’s Brew Pup which is southwest Colorado’s oldest brewery. My guest’s visit would have to include a stroll through Dryside Supply Co. and meet the talented Jake Polster-Sadlon to experience everything that his custom artworks and breathtaking creativity has to offer.
For dinner, Eolus is absolutely top notch and never disappoints. Their service and quality of fine dining is certainly something you won’t want to miss! The Animas theater is the perfect place to end an evening and enjoy live music from their top balcony.
A trip to Durango would not be complete without experiencing the Durango to Silverton steam engine train. The train travels through the mountain valleys showing you one of a kind views that you cannot obtain any other way! Enjoy the shops and support local artists in Silverton before it is time to take the train back to Durango.
Durango has countless food trucks to enjoy, but no one does it quite like Juicy’s Shanty which is an absolute must to help satisfy your hunger with unique BBQ flavors from the world class chef, Christopher Turner.
Durango has plenty to offer and explore. I believe it goes without saying that one week in this beautiful mountain town would never be enough to even scratch the service, but is without a doubt a bucket list destination.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Nikki Remic of Pittsburgh’s Center for Complimentary Health and Healing. Thank you for your patience through my growth, your trust, support and mentorship that has helped me arrive to where I am today.
