We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexander Perrine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexander, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Jamestown, Rhode Island. It is a small Island in the Narragansett bay. It led to me loving the sea and the natural world. A common theme in my my art is my response to mankind’s mistreatment of the natural world. We can do better. My parents are a fiber artist and a house painter who both take their crafts seriously and have refined their skills. They both have contributed to my desire and skill of working with my hands to create. Their community of friends, who often worked in similar trades and crafts, also fed into my creative and constructive side. My mother also worked at the Newport Art Museum. This exposed me to a number of artists during my early teen years. My favorites were Tom Deininger and Chuck Close. Growing up with beautiful natural views around a community of creative people, it is no surprise that I became and artist whose work focuses on encouraging people to be environmentally conscious,
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I make sculptures from trash. I want to make beautiful art that people find engaging. I want people to see what the art is made of and be inspired to think “ What can I do to contribute to this beautiful world?” Change bad habits, be a part of the solution, and also follow your own passions.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Creative Mind Technologies has been incredibly supportive, helpful and encouraging. They helped me with building my website, getting organized, staying positive, getting photos of my work and they even made a video of me describing my work which is available for viewing on my website. They have contributed to my success and helped me focus on being proactive. Many thanks you sweet people!
