We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Springer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
I (Lexi) served in the military for 11 years. After a trauma I responded to, I suffered from PTSD. I had a choice to either put my mental health first and leave the military, or continue for another 9 years to secure a pension for myself.

The choice to get out of the military also wasn’t cut and dry, I had to go through a lot of therapy and pay back my enlistment bonus as well as all schooling they payed for.

I ultimately decided to choose my mental health. Money comes and goes but It was time for me to come first. So I separated and and everything just felt right.

I was able to continue photography full time and it sky rocketed from there.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think the thing that sets us apart is our style. We have a dark and bold style but also truly focus on real emotion. We pride ourselves in a fully immersive experience with those who work with us. We no longer take everything that comes our way because we believe in immersing ourselves in our clients stories. That requires lots of time and getting to know each other.

I am proud of how my work has continued to grow. As hard as it was to do, I continued to post in photography groups and ask for people to give me constructive criticism. I took any and all advice and kept pushing through. The road was not easy. There were nights I would only sleep 1-2 hours. It felt like my job became my entire existence. It was all I could think about and talk about. I never knew what boundaries were and missed out on so many moments with my kiddos. I started to burn out and burn out hard.

After some time I have learned to set personal boundaries and real work hours. Once I started putting my family first again, the actual passion came back. We decided to rebrand to eliminate the jobs that didn’t fill our creative cup.

We want couples who are effortlessly in love. Those who plan their big days for them and not their guests. Those who have that spark! Throughout my time in my career I’ve learned to heavily focus on emotion in the moments because one day, these photos and film will be all they have left.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start at the Stanley hotel. I absolutely LOVE that location because it is beautiful but also, my best friend and I have always been intrigued by the paranormal. We would stay there for for a few days. During the day we would travel to Rocky Mountain national park and knock out some of the trails. We are going to pretend it is winter so that one of the nights we can head to the ice castles. Another day of our stay we would go to Colorado Springs and breathe in the nature of garden of the gods while staying at a local Airbnb.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Whole heartedly…my family. My husband and kids have had mama missing so much of the last few years. I would spend nights up until 4am just learning anything and everything I could to make my work better. I would take any and all sessions and weddings because for the longest time I didn’t know what boundaries were. I am so thankful I have finally worked through that part of building a business. They deserve ALLLLL of the praise.
