We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Jacobs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alicia, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’m a licensed esthetician and spent 10 years as a skincare trainer for top professional brands, but during and since the pandemic, the aesthetics industry has grown exponentially. I started to see more and more nurses, NP’s and PA’s moving from traditional medicine into aesthetics, and without that background in skincare, the training I was doing for these brands wasn’t enough. I realized there were tons of ‘boot camp’ style courses to introduce new providers to injectables, lasers and other hands-on treatments, but nothing catering to the skin part of the business. With my training background and love of education, I felt I could provide that skincare bootcamp in an easy-to-use digital format and now offer 10 on-demand courses for skincare providers through my website!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Comedy has always been a constant in my life. Growing up our family was and still is always laughing and joking around; as a teenager my entire vocabulary was SNL quotes. And I caught my husband’s eye by making him laugh at a barbecue. I spent over a decade doing improv and standup comedy and it was a natural transition into teaching and training-if people are laughing, they will remember whatever you’re trying to teach them! So this passion and background helped me stand out in the field as a trainer, especially during COVID when the company I was working for had to switch from training in medical offices to virtual. It’s tough keeping someone’s attention over zoom, but when you’ve honed your skills entertaining drunk bar patrons at 1AM on a Tuesday open mic, it’s a breeze. I bring humor to what can be pretty dry material-skin cells and how they operate. And I’ve finally figured out how to merge my 2 main passions in life through skincare-related comedy videos on social media starring a few characters I’ve created. If someone is interested in taking any of my courses or hiring me to train their team, they should know what they’re in for! Leaving the uptight corporate world behind has enabled me to be true to myself in everything I do for my career, and it’s a great feeling!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite thing about living in Denver is the proximity to amazing hiking and mountain adventures. So my favorite places in the city have views of those mountains! The rooftop bar at Le Meridien downtown is a great place to watch the sun set, and is conveniently near the world-famous ComedyWorks downtown where we could see the best comics in the country on any given night.
I love food and discovering new restaurants, and some of my all time favorites are in Aurora near my home. There’s a great stretch along Havana Street where you can find incredible food from all over Asia. A few favorites along this street are Leezakaya for incredible Japanese food; Tofu Story for house-made tofu and Korean tofu stews, and Nana’s Dim Sum for some of the best dumplings and dim sum in the city.
And of course anyone who visits needs to experience Meow Wolf. I’ve been wanting to check out their Adultiverse nights!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I truly could not have done this without the support of many mentors throughout my esthetics career: from my esthetics instructor, Linda Troute, to the manager who took a chance on me as a relatively new esthetician and hired me as an instructor at Dermalogica-thank you Julie Dunlap! The managers who shaped my skills and recognized my talents, moving and motivating me to be my best: thank you Laurel Windle and Larissa Singhoff! And of course, my husband Zac, for being my biggest cheerleader.
