We had the good fortune of connecting with Alison Meyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alison, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a kid, I was a serial entrepreneur—craft sales, babysitting, I even made greeting cards to sell when the Pope came to Denver for World Youth Day. But I never took the risk as an adult.

The pandemic gave me the bravery to start my own business. I figured the entire world was reshuffling, so why not join in?

Like many people, the pandemic also made me want to integrate my full self, including my values, into my work. So I created Indigo Communications to amplify people and businesses that are doing good—for their employees, customers and communities. I want my business to be a Care Bear Stare.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I partner with businesses who are looking to grow their brand and reach their customers in authentic ways. Generally they hire me to do human-centered storytelling.

This year, I’ve expanded into done-for-you award nomination services to help exceptional and unconventional entrepreneurs win business awards.

There are so many leaders out there making an impact and building successful businesses who don’t know how to leverage awards to get the third-party credibility and recognition they deserve. I’m peeling back the curtain and sharing the tips I learned from working in PR and corporate communications. I like to say I’m a freelance hype girl.

Running a business is full of highs and lows. Being “the face” of my company feels super vulnerable. But it’s also exciting, creative and empowering. I’ve developed a community of people I can talk to and lean on for support—no one can do it alone.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Almond croissants from Wooden Spoon, coffee from Huckleberry Roasters and something to read from West Side Books.
A hike at Three Sisters in Evergreen and green chile from La Casita.
A massage at White Lotus and shopping at Perfect Petal
Margaritas at La Loma, an evening walk around Sloans Lake and dinner at Konjo Ethiopian in Edgewater.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my husband for always backing my dreams. To all the lovely humans at my last workplace—your continued support and enthusiasm for what I’m doing keeps me going. You all are grace embodied. And to my clients for trusting me with your stories—thank you!
