We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi Grace Dack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heidi Grace, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, I wanted to bring a piece of the West wherever I go and I thought that starting my own Western company would be the best way to do it!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Unicorn of the West started because of my love for the ranch lifestyle. What sets me apart from others is that I actually lived the ranch lifestyle and know good quality hats. I can shape hats and know what hat style looks the best on certain face shapes, but also know how to personalize your hat to fit your lifestyle. Everyone can be a hat person as long as they have one that makes them feel confident. I got here because of the hard work and passion I put into my business, along with the support of others. It has not been easy but I enjoy challenging myself to get outside my comfort zone. I learned that trial and error can be expensive and that you can’t please everyone but it is apparent that my passion for the ranch can truly be seen in my products, and to me, that makes it all worth it. The ranch changed my life and I am forever grateful for the lessons, hardships, and great times I had on the ranch, so I want to bring a piece of that to the world, because the world needs more cowboys and cowgirls.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado has so much to offer. I would definitely take them to the ranch where it all started, Tarryall River Ranch. We would go on a trail ride, then stop by the Cowhand in Woodland Park to go shopping for some western wear. We would go to all the animal things….Cheyenne mountain zoo, the Wolf Center, and the Pines Peak or Bust Rodeo. I would definitely take them to hike at Palmer park, the Painted Mines, and Garden of the gods. For drinks and a cigar, we would go to my favorite speakeasy bar called District Eleven. And for a fun evening, we would get dressed up, walk around the Broadmoor, have a glass of wine next to the fireplace, and eat at the Golden Bee.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I owe my success to the One who created me and gifted me with the abilities to create my art. My husband serves in the U.S. Space Force and supports and encourages me with my company, I could not do this without him. My family has been a constant support and are always willing to help. My mother was the catalyst to me starting my own business because she brought me to a class about being an entrepreneur. My sister also helped me come up with the name Unicorn of the West, which truly suits me perfectly!
