We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business when I became a mother! I was already a stay-at-home-mother to be the primary caregiver to my infant. I was crafting to save my sanity, and soon I was making sales!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an eco-fashion designer! This means I only use natural materials, I save all of my “scraps”, and I make an effort towards keeping textiles out of landfills! I only ship with natural/reused packaging & I produce as little waste as possible. I am most proud of the publicity my brand has received. In the last year I have had success going viral, I have been published in dozens of magazines, and I have showcased on many runways!
I grew up in poverty, so naturally I have always done things at home (grown my own food, made my own clothes, built my own car). This made my professional journey both easier and harder.
Coming from poverty makes running my business easy because I have no excuses for anything, I am knowledgeable, and I know how to use my hands.
Coming from poverty makes running a business difficult because I am starting with nothing! I started with no money, no connections, and no experience with professionalism.
I have learned that I cannot get far alone, but not to let everyone get too close! I have had my boughs with wanting to get out of the fashion and business industry due to some dangers I faced in my career, however the impact my art has cannot be silenced.
I want the world to know that eco-fashion can change the world. From sweat shops to landfills, slow fashion can make a huge difference!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friend to the Great Sand Dunes National Park! We would appreciate the beauty of the Sangre De Cristo mountain range as well as Challenger Peak! Siam Cuisine is the best food in the area! Other than home cooked fresh farm food, we would indulge in some treats at The Roast! We have The Alligator Farm and the UFO Watchtower to expand our thinking, and the best camping in Colorado!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give recognition to my partner James! I would not have the confidence to promote my brand, take chances, and believe I deserve this without James! Every time I am discouraged, he reminds me of who I am and what I am capable of!
