We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Gorman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Having the support of a birth doula throughout labor and delivery reduces the risk of needing a c-section by up to 50%. In fact, in early research it was found that just the presence of a woman knitting in the corner of a delivery room was associated with higher reports of positive birth outcomes. Laboring individuals are 11% less likely to need pain interventions with a doula present and the additional support shortens labor by 41 minutes on average.

What should our readers know about your business?
My name is Alyssa and I am a birth and postpartum doula located in Littleton, Colorado. I service clients in and around the Denver Metro Area and offer evidence-based informational and emotional support throughout pregnancy, labor & delivery and the precious time directly following birth. At Baby Brynne Doula Care my clients needs are my #1 priority. As a birth doula I recognize that birth is a key life experience and everyone deserves support during such a transformative time regardless of economical status, race, or gender identity. What sets my business aside from other birth doulas is the sliding scale and low income payment options I offer. I take on a few pro-bono cases per year to support the births of individuals who otherwise would not have additional support; as well as donate my time to birth parents (parents placing their baby for adoption) during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. I am a child of an open-adoption and achieved my own unmedicated intervention-free birth with my son, Storm, in May of 2021. After having my own doula, going through 20 hours of unmedicated back labor, and studying literature surrounding the birthing space, my love for reproductive health, women’s rights and patient advocacy was born! As a doula, I offer informational support and resources as well as encouragement, meditation and visualization techniques and comfort measures. I am available to support any type of delivery whether that be a planned c-section, an unmedicated homebirth with a midwife or all other scenarios in between!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Denver is such a creative city! From delicious bakeries, to free live shows, outdoor community workouts and adorable coffee shops, there is something for everyone here. My favorite place to visit is the Denver Central Market in LoDO. They offer savory dishes, like sandwiches and seafood, along with bakery items, coffee’s, tea’s, candies and more. Levitt Pavilion is definitely one of my go-to places to visit right outside of Denver as well. Many summer nights they offer free concerts with a diverse music scene and delicious food trucks!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ann Pollack, long-time birth doula, child birth educator, and CLC. What I learned from Ann perfectly primed me for my career in the birthing space!
