We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Nieves and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Ah, balance! Literally something I attempt to maintain in all realms of my life. Since leaving my 9-5 to focus on my vintage business, to now starting a new business venture, and having a baby this past year, balance sometimes feels like an unrealistic term. Somehow I manage though. I am an advocate for schedules and organization and I truly believe that being strict with myself in terms of creating a schedule, really keeps my life as balanced as possible. Now there are diaper changes on the schedule, but nonetheless, the work gets done and that’s what matters.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In all honesty, I’m not sure what sets me or my businesses apart from other businesses. I would hope that it’s the integrity, the uniqueness and hard work that I put into everything I create, but that’s a question for my customers and clients. I am most proud of starting a business at all. I believe taking the first step into owning a business is a huge leap of faith that can be quite scary if you contemplate on the thought long enough. My business is where it is today by remaining consistent and being true to myself, ALWAYS, and it’s definitely what I am most proud of. I believe that being my authentic self has provided me with the right opportunities as well as brought me around the right people. I’ve learned that you won’t always get support from those you expect, but you’ll receive love and support from strangers, and that’s okay. I’ve learned that in the process of being a one man band, it’s also okay to slow down when you need to. Those who support you will always understand and keep supporting. TRUST! At the end of the day, I would like to world to know that everything that goes into my vintage business is my heart, my passion, and my soul from lifetimes and worlds apart. I absolutely adore bringing people to a place of nostalgia because it’s a place I tend to live.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is fun! All of my friends and family live in South Florida so this scenario has been a reality of mine several times since living in Colorado. For a first day in town, I like to keep it local since the time change seems to get my fellow east coasters. I start by a day in the city of Denver, eating breakfast at Snooze because, have you tried their pancake flight?! We’ll then head downtown, hit up any bar for a drink and then most likely visit a dispensary. Keep it extra chill. I like to think one day in the city is enough so next on our itinerary would be going to see the mountains! We’ll take a drive to Boulder, visit the Boulder falls and go for a small hike near a reservoir. After our hike, we’d visit their street mall where we’d grab a bite to eat and stop by the cutest spiritual shop they have. Throughout their visit, I always like to take a trip to Colorado Springs to visit Garden of Gods, Manitou Springs and back northwest to Breckenridge because visiting small mountain towns is a must.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many individuals and resources deserve a shout out from me. But to spare readers, I’ll just name a few. Within the last two years, my two business partners/friends have been more than co creators to me and have given me the utmost genuine love and support throughout every day life and it’s struggles. My parents will forever be biggest support system, my children have been my every day inspiration. Every single book I have read in regards to business, spirituality, self growth, and herbalism (Book Titles: I am Diosa, Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs, Quantum Success, Atomic Habits) – I appreciate the lessons! Cheers to free crash business courses from Google, YouTube, and other available resources on the internet, you are the real MVP. The list can go on.
