We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Being a rodeo queen it was hard to find affordable nice jewelry that not only looked good but was able to withstand all the work we had to do in and out of the arena. I decided to take it into my own hands after my first year of queening and create Cook Rocking Boutique. I wanted girls to have the option of looking great without having to break the bank as most of us had to fundraise our money for the year and I’d rather that money go towards traveling and experiencing their title to the fullest! which then led me to sponsoring rodeo queens and rodeo athletes!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I created my shop back in 2018, it wasn’t easy by any means and more money was spent than earned those first few years of building up inventory and getting my business out there. I do everything, from making and creating pieces, taking pictures of products, packaging and shipping, and everything in between. It’s solely on me and thanks to my family and friends, they helped spread the word of my new boutique and customers slowly started rolling in. I pride myself in helping others and doing custom work for special pieces that hold a lot of love in them. Sponsoring up and coming rodeo queens and rodeo athletes is a true gift as it’s something I had when I was younger, someone to believe in me and my passions, and I wanted to give that love and support back. It wasn’t until Covid-19 that it really took off. With everyone on lockdown, online shopping really took off which in turn blew my boutique up! As awful as those years were I’m incredibly grateful. Each month after that was a toss up, some months were better than others and I truly couldn’t understand why as nothing had changed but that’s just the way business works and it took me a while to understand that it’s okay to have slow months. It’s actually pretty normal with small businesses. It’s a privilege to be able to live the life I do, it doesn’t really feel like “work” for me at all, it’s something I enjoy doing and I’m blessed to do what I love for a living!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take them to Old Town Fort Collins! There’s tons of shops and boutiques to spend the whole day roaming around. The personalization and unique business makes it even better as you can see the love put into them! Then after some shopping we’d go for lunch at Beau Jo’s! Their pizza is to die for with the honey to put on your crust! Delicious!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To my friends and family that supported this business adventure of mine and fully understand why I was passionate about making jewelry. Your encouragement means more to me than you’ll ever know.
