We had the good fortune of connecting with Amia Farris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I always knew I wanted to be my own boss, but beyond that I wanted the freedom of being the owner of your own schedule, pay, workspace, etc. I wanted to represent a strong woman owned business that was inclusive, unique, and supported others.
My ideas and goals I created seemed so far away from reality at first, but once I really put my effort and drive into the full concept it all came to me and emerged exactly how I had envisioned.
I just knew from day one I had to stay organized, driven, and one step ahead to build the business I wanted.
What should our readers know about your business?
Obsession Salon & Sun Lounge Co is unique and different for a variety of reasons, one being we are an overall beauty bar, kind of a one stop shop if you will.
Not only do we provide your typical hair salon and tanning salon services; we offer esthetician services, redlight therapy, spray tans, and an infraded dry sauna.
We really pride ourselves on being an inclusive beauty experience, no judgment, no drama, all people are always welcome!
Lots of time and thought goes into our marketing, services, and overall appearances.
We want every client to step into our business and feel like they really are here for a day just for them to relax and be taken care of.
The process of getting the business of the ground was not so easy at first, there is so much more then coming up with a name and finding clients.
However, once you find a strategic plan and organized way to accomplish each tier the rest falls into place.
The mistakes that happen along the way are just lessons learned that make you stronger and more comfortable as you adjust your way into becoming a business owner.
I was just a 21 year old trying to find my own way and create my own personal brand that I would be proud to stand behind and now a couple years in I am so happy to offer such an experience!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love visiting the mountains that surround our beautiful city! Pikes Peak is a must, along with Idaho Springs and Georgetown.
One of my favorite restaurants is WestMain in Parker, but we would also have to do brunch in the heart of downtown Denver.
We of course couldn’t forget to take a stroll down 16th street mall and shop.
I love how Colorado has so much to offer for any type of traveler – the front range has so much explore!
Whether its a Broncos game or the Viewhouse downtown after a Rockies game I love the atmospehere of the big city and all the exciting things that comes with it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I attribute a ton of my success to my family, specifically my parents. They raised me to have goals not just dreams, something that was realistic and achievable.
Between the two of them I was always surrounded by positivity and two hard working role models.
I saw them put in the hours and accomplish more then what was normally asked just to make sure they could give us the best life possible. It has been amazing watching them raise my siblings and I, so much love and passion.
They taught me how to be confident and my genuine self, and they really pushed me to go out and live my life to the fullest. Those lessons and words of encouragement shaped me to the person I am today and followed through to my business practices and ideals.
