We had the good fortune of connecting with Amii Harmon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amii, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Without dreams, leaps of faith, and courage we would tread the same path daily. Dream big. Then dream bigger. Now bigger still. Implementing this will bring you passion and purpose. Begin somewhere. One measured, faithful, full of fear step at a time. Move forward. Take risks. Don’t be foolish—or when failing consider yourself a fool. Learn as you go. Adjust. Revise. Continue. Steadfast toward your dream. We wrote our dream life/home/business on a grocery list notepad in 1985. We never forgot about it per se but carried on growing our life knowing more clearly our objectives and what would make us happiest. Then in 2012 we nearly dropped everything to purchase our dream property only to lose out to another buyer. Devastating. Suddenly in 2013 our dream property, one more amazing than we ever thought we could get, nearly fell in our laps. Better timing. Better long term. Much much work and great and risk. And it became ours. Check it out at HarmonFarms.us where we’ve been steadily, happily growing out business and life since.

What should our readers know about your business?
We love sharing our farm and homes with guests We host events, photographers, goat cuddling, glamping, farm experiences and farm goods. And we are committed to building a strong network with amazing vendors, resource providers, and industry professionals. We realize the importance of community, service staff, and reliable tradesmen. Bringing this farm back to life with animals and guests is our mission. It is a daily challenge to run the farm and continue to improve it. Sustainability and resourcefulness are at the core of who we are. Animal husbandry and attention to the environment are essential. At Harmon Farms we live The Good Life and try to send everyone home with a piece of it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The farm has goats, chickens, horses, bees and many wild birds. We would stay here. Offering a farm raised and home made meals while enjoying the wide open sky and view of the Rocky Mountains. The Pawnee Grasslands, Rocky Mountain National Park, Loveland’s sculpture parks, Fort Collins’ Cache la Poudre River, Greeley’s World’s Largest 4th of July Rodeo and music festival, and a ride on the Georgetown Loop Railroad would give guests a taste of the plains to the peaks. We would stop to enjoy breweries and amazing meals in any if our nearby communities. Throw in some shopping and spa experiences and we’ve indulged and treated ourselves. We’d return home and watch fireflies after watching the sunsets or walks along The Great Western Trail which is adjacent to our farm. And watch the stars while enjoying hot chocolate or adult beverages. Then fall asleep in our comfortable beds with miles of nature and agricultural views. They’d go home with farm fresh eggs and home ambrosia with some other home made goodies, knitted items, hand burned wooden spoons, and their cups full wanting to come back soon.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
