Meet Dick Cooley | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dick Cooley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dick, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I went to school for welding back in 79 I learned how to weld and did it as a hobby for 15 years and then 21 years ago I went full-time doing an average of 20 to 30 art and craft shows a year I’ve sold average sales before Cove it was just over $100,000 in artwork which most of my artwork is $100 or less and most of it is $50 or less so that’s a lot of sculpture sculptures I make small metal sculptures using spark plugs as my people doing work, occupation, sports, hobbies and lot other sculpture.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
All my work is one of a kind I make each one of the pieces all myself how I tell people I do my how I do my orders is a make it and mail it to you if you’d like it send me a check if not mail it back if you don’t like it I will sell them at a show making special orders for people is one of my favorite things to do from a pontoon boat with two people and two dogs one dog and three legs to a gynecologist and a real Speculum to a toaster camper with motorcycle on the back or a forklift with real forks to a board I make from iron for the lock for the motor and spark plug guys fishing all one-of-a-kind

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in West Bend Wisconsin a small little town north of Milwaukee things to do in my area are actually live on a lake lot of fishing water skiing tubing and ice fishing in the winter time I think it easily spend a week here and not have to go anywhere but there’s ski hill just a little ways away lots of nice restaurants to eat at the kettle Moraine forest is just 12 miles away in the Harley museum in downtown Milwaukee brewing motorcycles actually have some away sculptures in the store at the Harley museum go to Brewer gamePackers are just down the road for an hour and a half away if you want to go watch a Packer game

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank the service garage in my hometown that save Spark plugs for me the boat dealers and the hardware stores that save spark plugs for me I go through about 5000 use spark plugs in sculptures. Also special thanks to wife for her support. All the people that get smiles. From giving 1 of sculptures as a gift is so cool. is one of my reasons I lesson to lot books well creating from local library.
