We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Ackerman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success so far has been consistency, particularly in regard to building my online presence. A lot of my business over the last year came through social media, and I credit that to putting out well-planned, consistent content that provides value to my social sphere. Showing up every day, especially on the days I don’t feel like it, and investing even just a few minutes in building my online brand has been really impactful for my business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe what sets me apart in my industry is that I’ve really centered my brand and my business around providing as much value as possible to not only my clients, but everyone I come in contact with. The ins and outs of real estate are not something we’re taught growing up, so I’ve made it my mission to educate and provide resources to make buying, selling, and investing in real estate less intimidating. So many people miss out on the benefits of owning real estate simply because they believe homeownership is more difficult to achieve than it really is.

I got to where I am today professionally through hard work, consistency, and a little bit of luck. There have been ups and downs through the journey, and there are moments when things feel like they’re easy and fluid and moments where things feel like pushing a boulder uphill. I think that’s the story of entrepreneurship, though.

I faced a number of challenges in the beginning of my career. I was a single parent with debt jumping into a career where nothing is guaranteed. But I knew, in order to provide my daughter and myself with the life we really wanted, I needed to take this risk. There have been many late nights, moments of doubt, and learning curves, but the journey is so worth it. I’ve learned to manage and overcome many of the struggles of entrepreneurship simply by keeping a positive mindset, remembering my “why,” and moving forward no matter what. A friend recently told me “the only way out is through,” and that’s exactly how I see difficult times. There is success waiting for those who can push through where so many others would give up.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What a fun question! Our first stop would be near my stomping grounds in Old Town Fort Collins. I’d suggest we visit Austin’s American Grill for dinner (their roasted garlic mashers are amazing), stop by The Exchange for a drink, and then finish the night at The Coast or The Bar District for some dancing. I would also want to make a pit stop in Denver and visit Meow Wolf for an immersive art experience, catch a show at Ball Arena, or go shopping at the 16th Street Mall. Lastly, we would have to take a trip up to the mountains for a day of snowboarding. Keystone is my personal favorite ski spot, but you can’t go wrong at any of the Colorado ski resorts!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my mother, Susan, and my managing broker at RE/MAX Alliance, Russ. I would not be where I am today without the help and encouragement of these two very special people. My mother has been in real estate investing since I was in high school, so I was able to learn a lot about real estate before it was even my job. She introduced me to Russ, who then became my agent when I purchased my first home. Russ really became my inspiration to take a leap into the world of real estate and has consistently provided me with encouragement, support, and resources along the way. These two have believed in my ability to succeed so much, that it has given me the strength and fortitude to thrive in an incredibly competitive industry.
