We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Schamberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Many people outside of the functional medicine space hear the word “holistic” and they often think it’s just some woo-woo concept without any scientific backing.

In reality, holistic means taking a whole-person approach to wellness, focusing on all the parts that make up a person- the physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual factors- rather than just the symptoms of an illness or disease.

So when a client wants to improve their mental health and overall well-being, this is the approach we follow so they can break free from stress, overcome barriers, build resilience, and navigate life with happiness and ease.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Amy Schamberg Wellness aims for every client to attain unlimited health and happiness in a holistic way. Through the 7 Pillars of Balanced Wellness, clients discover the root cause of their struggles and learn how to create sustainable change to build confidence, regain control and live the life they truly want.

I worked for over a decade in public education as a school psychologist. Throughout my career and over the past few years especially, I’ve noticed a significant need for a type of mental health care other than therapy alone, which really only focuses on healing from the past or managing diagnoses.

Additionally, when I first started my private practice it became quickly apparent that the smart, driven, and proactive women I worked with were looking for a solutions-focused, action-based process to achieve their goals

With that in mind, I created a step-by step, holistic protocol for stressed-out 20-somethings to break free from anxiety, build resilience, and navigate life with happiness and ease, by diving into the science of functional medicine and pairing it with a new, actionable way of tackling mental health and overall wellbeing.

Getting to where I am today with my business has not been easy! The first coaching program I created was focused solely on gut health, something I am still very passionate about, especially with all of the research on the gut-brain connection and links between gut health and mental health. However, the more clients I worked with, the more I noticed that issues like negative thought patterns, low self-esteem, poor coping skills and unhealthy habits were what was really preventing them from moving forward. So, although I put an incredible amount of time and energy into creating my gut health protocol, I made the decision to shift out of that niche and channel my efforts into holistic mental wellness instead.

I love learning from and growing with my clients, and I believe that modifying my practice to meet their needs is modeling resilience! I feel lucky to really connect with my clients on a deep level. Because I have walked in their shoes- having dealt with my own mental health struggles for a large portion of my life- I truly get it. And the great news is by following my protocol, which addresses every single part of my clients, they make gains they never thought possible. Watching my clients go from feeling stuck to being empowered and taking action is the most rewarding aspect of what I do!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ohhh, this is a fun question! It would be a mix of culture, good food, and being active outdoors in our beautiful state!

Day 1: Walk around Wash Park & have lunch at Wash Park Grille. Let them acclimate to the altitude a bit.
Day 2: Denver Art Museum. Dinner & drinks in Larimer Square, probably Rioja.
Day 3: Visit art galleries on Santa Fe. Catch a show at the Mission Ballroom.
Day 4: Shopping in Cherry Creek North. Brunch at True Food Kitchen, dinner at Cherry Creek Grill.
Day 5: Sightseeing at Red Rocks, then head up to Evergreen to hike the 3 Sisters Trail and get a massage at Tall Grass Spa
Days 6 & 7: It’s a toss up- either camping & hot springs in Steamboat, or snowboarding in Crested Butte- depending on time of year.

We might need a few extra days…..!!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh absolutely, there are so many people that have led me to where I am today, whether directly or indirectly- far too many to list! If I had to name a just few…

My husband, Jay, and my best friends Cortney and Kari, have always supported my endeavors and encouraged me to pursue my dreams.

My children are a daily inspiration to keep working hard and persevering to reach my goals.

Dr. Mark Hyman is the reason I found and fell in love with functional medicine, and listening to his podcasts is what ultimately led me to become a functional medicine health coach.

And I’ve been very lucky to have various mentors and teachers guide me along the way.

I am incredibly grateful to all of the supportive people I’ve had in my life!!
