We had the good fortune of connecting with Ana Martinez Chamorro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I enjoyed the process of making photographs, originally developing my own film in a dark room. The more I did it, the more I became intrigued in storytelling, which led me to photograph for my college newspaper, The Towerlight. That’s when I began photographing senior portraits for friends, which led to photographing their weddings. After graduating, I worked in public relations for a few years until realizing I was more passionate about photography. So I jumped full-time into my already growing business. I’ve now photographed over 200 weddings and 500 headshot sessions, along with two presidential candidates. I’m always looking forward to the next session and where it’ll take me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Relationships are the most important part of my business and what makes it flourish. I cherish the connections I make with other professionals because it feels like picking the best team every single time. These are the people that will go above and beyond in their own work and for you as you progress through your business. I’ve learned that business connections are the best method for my business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A good time for me and a friend includes having a big breakfast with excellent sourced coffee, a walk or picnic in the park, oysters and bubbly for lunch, a visit to a local museum, and closing it out with rooftop dinner and drinks!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A shoutout to everyone who is working on going full-time in their business. It’s quite a leap to make but after you make it, it’s liberating and you’ll never look back. Keep at it!
