We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Kreeger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?

I have the honor to be both an entrepreneur and a single parent! It is a challenge not only to manage the balance of work and home life, but to span the rolls of parent, teacher, student and owner, developer and manager. It is an endless juggle between lives. I find I need to constantly reevaluate priorities, needs and dreams. The most important thing to me is to know when to lead, when to listen and also when to let go. To stay fluid as an artist, a business woman, and a sole parent keeps me on my toes and is my greatest life lesson. My hope is that my roll as a parent and small business owner models integrity, stamina, independence, patience, innovation, and diplomacy. I can say I strive to keep improving in order to be a solid leader, role model and receptive student through experience, observation and inquiry. As much as I would like to be a perfect model, perfection is not an option, to my chagrin, yet as a parent I am proud to see my daughter succeed and thrive in every direction she travels, not afraid to peruse her dreams. At the end of the day the most important thing I have done as a parent, which I hope impacts my child, is simply to stick with it, believe in myself and stay positive in the most challenging of circumstances. The lessons I wish to share are not so much stories of success, yet stories of perseverance. As an entrepreneur I am delighted when my risks pay off and my hard work becomes rewarding. I hope my journey together as artist, parent and business woman has had a positive impact and will continue to inspire my family, my students, and art lovers.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

I am most excited to have the freedom to experiment with new mediums and let my abstraction take a new form. I am inspired by the feedback and comments of those who appreciate my style, and lately I feel their enthusiasm gives me permission to break the rules. I am not sure if this sets me apart from others, but I have stopped reading directions and I have abandoned the “rule” of art I was taught and that certainly sets me a apart from my former self. I hope for my artwork to translate the emotion I pour into it, to evoke emotion; joy and happiness are beautiful, but even sadness and unidentifiable emotions are welcome as well. It is most exciting when people tell me what they feel or what they see in the presence of one of my paintings.

My lessons are many and ever present. I am where I am now because I could not be where others wanted me to be. That sounds strange, in other words I kept pioneering my own path even if I have to walk alone. I am in a new exciting realm where my success allows me to create are share art and keep the cycle going.

It was not easy, I can’t claim it is easy now, but it is easier. I have learned to learn in unconventional ways and I am grateful for being brave enough to break out of a form. Formal education or institutions didn’t always work well for my personality. I faced challenges in the confines of high school and left early to seek out a more freedom based education. I am insatiable, and always have had and insatiable appetite to learn, yet for some reason I often felt the knowledge I was looking for was out of reach or limited. What I realized later in life was I needed a more custom tailored journey of education and that was up to me. It was not easy trying to make a living, forming a business out of art, in a way that honored myself and was acceptable to society. I faced a great deal of rejection and discouragement which had less to do about what I was doing and more about how I was going about it, that was the unacceptable part. Perseverance is what helped me overcome those challenges. I would like the world to know – you can do it even if others don’t believe it- if you believe, no matter how briefly, it can be done. I know daunting challenges lies ahead for me, this time is different because I know I can face it. My story is just beginning stay tuned.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shoutout to my daughter Selah, who has endured the ups and downs with me and in the end remains supportive. Thank you for believing in me Selah,
