Meet Tammy Cameron | Fashion and Image Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammy Cameron and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tammy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process for starting my own business evolved over time. It began by simply helping a friend and grew from there. I retired from being a corporate executive and returned to my home state of Colorado. A close friend in Colorado made a career change from running an online business, in a pre-Covid era, to becoming a real estate agent and was accustomed to dressing mainly in athletic wear while working from home.
She was challenged transitioning from her current wardrobe to an in person job where she needed to instill her real estate clients with confidence in her. She was unsure about what to wear but also how to build a wardrobe for her new career. I jumped at the chance to overhaul her closet and wardrobe and handled all the details for her. It brought me such joy–the ability to make her more confident through clothing–and I had really missed fashion and how it applies to the every day. After completing the project, I began a formal certification program of image consulting and determined that there was a viable business of image consulting and styling.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Raised in Colorado, I moved to Washington, DC to earn my Master’s, and spent 25 years in policy and politics. I’ve worked for US Senators, CEOs of Fortune 25 companies, and non-profits. In policy advising, you compete with hundreds of interests and must convey knowledge and strength, while convincing decisionmakers your approach is best.
DC has compelling work, but the dress is conservative and mostly unremarkable. For some reason, I was driven to break DC’s clothing convention (honestly, I took it as more of a challenge). I’ve always loved fashion and putting together different looks, having mastered the capsule wardrobe. In DC, I sought items made of interesting fabrics and small details. I always completed my look with a notable (glittery, if possible) accessory, while still in the requisite suit.
I retired young, and now divide time between Colorado and DC. My lifestyle is of two extremes: living atop an 8200-foot altitude mountain in a national forest; and an urban, condo-dweller surrounded by concrete. I effortlessly travel between both worlds, applying wardrobe elements from each locale—proving I can navigate any lifestyle.
I began fashion and image consulting with wardrobe assessments and styling friends changing careers, attending special events, or returning to the workforce. My purpose is to find clothing which fits your body type and coloring, while changing how you look and feel, all while remaining your authentic self. Of course, I’m always searching for good value and that fantastic wardrobe find.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start out by spending time both in Denver and Colorado Springs. We would head out on a trail hike in Pike National Forest in the morning and perhaps lunch at Atmosphere in Colorado Springs. While there, we’d stop by Scheel’s to do a bit of shopping and visit their giant aquarium–so unique! We’d also try to squeeze the Denver Biscuit Company one day so we could look at the view of Pikes Peak while noshing on some fabulous food and drinks.
In Denver, one place we’d visit would be Sushi Den on Pearl Street in Denver. Their food and fresh menu selections are unsurpassed in my mind when it comes to sushi. We would also visit Sierra in Lone Tree. Though it blends in with its environs, the view and the atmosphere is fantastic. I wrap up our time shopping at Rags Consignment in Cherry Creek.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to recognize my husband, Art, who has encouraged and supported me to set up Elevated Image. He saw the viability and promise long before I. I would also like to thank Sandi Griffin, of Sandi Griffin Fitness in Colorado Springs, for mentoring me on every aspect of starting and running your own business. I also appreciate her trust and confidence in me as she was also my first client. I believe people show up in your life for a reason, and with Sandi’s support and assistance, I was able to get my business off the ground and she has selflessly shared her network and knowledge with me.
