We had the good fortune of connecting with Andy Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I only have one life, short? long?? Who knows?? Life is an opportunity to be happy , one opportunity to make my dreams come true . I don’t know if im not waking up tomorrow, so what im going to do is take risks!! Im not going to be afraid to fail , i don’t want to ask myself “what if”, so I’ll take a risk to follow my dreams.
Thats how Roka Hueka started, i took the risk of created this band without thinking “what if” people doesnt like our sound?? I just tought about doing it and have fun doing it.
Im going to continue risking for succes but at the same time not forgetting about having fun!!
Life is short, so enjoy the ride and take risks!!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since I was a kid , I always wanted to sing in a band , that was my dream, but I never had the guts to really make it happen. When.I was about 14 years old i listened to this genre called “Latin Ska” , my cousin had this cassette playing in the car and it was the band Panteón Rococó, as soon as I heard the song , it just got me!! And I said .. I want to sing in a latin ska band, but
It took me about 18 more years to get started .
I posted an ad on craigslist looking for musicians, and on Febraury 7th 2014 Roka Hueka played for the first time.
I think i started where the universe wanted me to start , so Im so happy and greatful to be where Im at this moment.
I just want the world to know that Roka Hueka will be there to give you a moment of music where you can forget about everything and just Dance , Dance and Dance!!!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is an interesting question,.. it depends how I feel that exact moment , if i feel like i want to scape from the noise , we’ll go to the mountains , but if i feel energetic and ready to party, we’ll go to a live punk or ska underground concert around the city in Denver
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thanks to all my Family , Friends and fans that keep supporting this Roka movement! With you Roka Hueka sigue Pa’Delante!!
