We had the good fortune of connecting with Ang & Fabian Gonzales and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ang & Fabian, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
We both have a strong work ethic along with determination to build a better life for the future of our family. Staying focused on our goals and not giving up is a big part of what drives us. In the beginning when we first started pulling ideas together for opening up our own business we were told that it usually took 1.5 -2 years to get the doors open in Loveland, CO. We pushed everything to the limits from registration of “Black and Blues, Music and Brews” to physically opening the doors it took only 7 months. Unheard of, but we didn’t know it couldn’t be done…so we just kept going.
Then after only being open for 4 months there was a pandemic announced. Instead of giving up, we just pushed through in anyway we could by working with financial institutions and applying for every grant imaginable. Also a big part of getting through the pandemic was building a community with local musicians, since the whole industry imploded we all needed to raise up for each other. As business owners we knew that we had to look outside the current structure to make sure all bills of our residence and the business were covered. So we both held down full-time jobs to get through and we understand this is how it will need to be for awhile until we establish ourselves in the industry and are able to overcome the debt associated with the shutdowns and restrictions.
All of these habits are also helping us in our parenting journey, our daughter knows the hard work that we put into this venture and that success doesn’t always come easy. We feel good about being able to teach her these habits so she can implement them in her future self.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets us apart is the space/venue we’ve created is for musicians to display their talents and creative vision. Our space is music focused with no other distractions. We often hear from musicians that they feel “seen and appreciated” in our Intimate Listening Room and that it is their favorite room to play. We’re proud to be able to provide our space to the music community. We are also open to other creative minds, including artists and authors and try to include a space for them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d take them on a tour of our favorite breweries in Northern Colorado. Since we love to support local at our establishment, we have a lot of rotating taps that can be enjoyed at our space and it is important to us that they are brewed in Colorado. Along with distilled liquor that in used in our signature cocktails.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to shoutout Braydon Peterson, he is a true superstar. His band Ain’t From Here (Braydon Peterson, Jeremy Smith, and Christopher Solis) has been a big part of our journey and we couldn’t thank them enough. Not only that but Braydon also hosts one of the events at Black and Blues that is a crowd favorite. The NoCo SongWriter Series showcases musicians and their original music. We structure the event like a contest of sorts with the audience voting for the best musician of the night to move onto the Masters. By building musicians up and involving the audience this event has made Braydon a real VIP in our world !!
