We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelica Mendoza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angelica, why did you pursue a creative career?
Growing up in a family brimming with creative energy, I was fortunate to have multiple avenues for self-expression, with music being the most prominent. From a tender age, the melodious tunes of my mother’s voice and the gentle strumming of my father’s guitar enveloped my world. The tradition stretched back even further, to the lullabies of my great grandmother that serenaded me to sleep.

At the age of nine, I embarked on a journey with the violin, an instrument that became not only a means of musical exploration but also a catalyst for my own compositions. Battling with social anxiety, I found solace and refuge in the embrace of music, losing myself in its harmonies and rhythms day after day. It became my sanctuary, a safe haven where I could pour out my soul without fear or inhibition.

Through music, I not only found companionship with kindred spirits but also discovered a language to articulate my deepest emotions. It became a conduit through which I could navigate the complexities of life, channeling joy, sorrow, and everything in between into melodies that resonated with my innermost being. Music wasn’t just a pastime or a hobby; it was an integral part of my identity, a lifeline that tethered me to the world and allowed me to flourish despite my struggles.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It has been a hard road traveled and still far from where I want to be but I am proud of myself for pushing past my social anxiety to be able to get up on stage and preform in front of tons of new souls. I recently achieved one of my biggest goals and that was playing one of the bigger stages at my favorite festival Dancefestopia. After achieving this goal I’ve started to go in on my music production and started releasing new tracks after years of stopping. I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned is to enjoy what you do, love and support the people who love and support you and after you achieve a goal create another one and push to achieve even if its uncomfortable. I watch a channel call “Seek Discomfort” and whenever I feel I’m scared and about to miss an opportunity because of it, I repeat this phrase in my head.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d start with showing them some of our smaller intimate music venue for example, Black Box, Your Moms House, Larimer Lounge etc. After this I would make sure to take them to our most beautiful venue Red Rocks for a EDM show! After a night of raging brunch at Snooze would be heaven followed by dinner at Wings and Burgers for some unique yummy drinks to pregame for a show at Mission Ballroom.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to give a shoutout to not only my family, friends and fellow artist who have supported me but to the individuals and company’s that give others the opportunity to play festivals and shows it may be difficult to play. For me personally Dancefestopia’s Yellow Brick Road Tour has not only done amazing things for me but for hundreds of artists!
