We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelica Pohl and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process on starting my own business came from being a stay at home mother. I found something that I was passionate about but also wanted to create the time and space to be able to be successful but also be able to move freely. I also wanted to be a role model in my daughters life to show her she can achieve whatever she wants if she works hard for it!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Confidence is something i have always struggled with. Learning makeup helped me gain a new sense of self that I wanted other women to feel. There’s something about helping women feel confident and seeing their faces light up after a makeup application that makes my heart feel so full. Being a self taught makeup artist has had its challenges but has also been super awesome learning from fellow artists and always trying to learn new techniques. The makeup industry is cut-throat and there is no room for error. In order to overcome challenges and errors I take in as much as I can and learn from each experience and do what I can to make each encounter with my clients memorable and accommodating. One thing I would like the world to know about me and my brand is you will always leave feeling glamourous and fabulous!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting, I would take them them to one of my favorite breakfast spots, red rooster they have a home cooked style vibe and their food is amazing! Then I would take them to different places like , red rocks and look out mountain for views , meow wolf, the Jurassic park exhibit and the selfie museum for some fun. Then we I would take them to maybe some Korean bbq, sushi or authentic Mexican food at places like Seoul Korean bbq, Mizu izakaya for sushi and Los dos portillos for Mexican. I would always take them downtown to check out 16th st mall for some shopping or take them to Estes park for views and shopping.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shout-out to Thaise Hahn, she took a chance on me in the beginning of my journey and we have been working together ever since! We share the same values and goals as far as business and love to make people feel beautiful and confident in themselves. It’s a very rewarding feeling to do makeup/ hair for her clients and to see the photos and the final outcome. We make magic together!
