Meet Angelina Nguyen | Baker & Cake Decorator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelina Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelina, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic career because of how much I fell in love with cake decorating. I started off as a team member at Baskin Robbins, but when I got the opportunity to become a cake decorator, I discovered how much I enjoyed it. After a few months in, I started sharing the cakes I made for myself and friends on my cake account, which eventually led to orders from word of mouth and mutual connections. What I love most is being able to create something so aesthetically pleasing that people can also enjoy for their own celebrations. It’s inspiring to know my work contributes to their special moments, and it pushes me to keep growing creatively!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve had to privilege of attending the Culinary Arts program at Pikes Peak State College, where I’ve gained valuable knowledge ranging from business skills to baking techniques, thanks to the incredible support and guidance from my teachers.
Balancing cake orders with school and work hasn’t been easy. There was even a time when I was juggling two jobs alongside school, which made managing cake orders on busy days particularly challenging. I had to find ways to stay organized and make sure every order was completed on time.
Baking has taught me a lot through trial and error. I’ve had to redo cakes or frosting when things didn’t go right, but each challenge made me better at what I do.
What sets me apart is the time, effort, and care I put into my cakes. I’m committed to delivering both high-quality products and customer service. I would never sell a cake I wasn’t proud of, and I work hard to ensure every order meets my personal standards of perfection. My journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it, and I’m excited to continue growing and sharing my passion for baking.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Mollica’s Italian Market and Deli, an authentic Italian spot that serves everything from pizza and pasta to gelato. You can even purchase fresh ingredients from their deli to take home. Another must-visit is my new favorite place downtown, Atomic Cowboy, which features both Denver Biscuit Co. and Fat Sully’s Pizza. It’s perfect for morning brunch or a late-night meal, and afterward, we’d take a stroll through downtown Colorado Springs.
I also love taking my friends up to Denver, where we’d visit Washington Park. It’s my favorite place to spend a peaceful afternoon with plenty of fun activities like renting swan boats, bikes, and more. It’s the ideal mix of relaxation and fun in a beautiful setting.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to my former manager, Amy, for introducing me to cake decorating. She always encouraged me to keep practicing and made me feel confident about my progress over time. Amy taught me valuable skills, including time management, efficiently handling multiple orders, and completing cakes quickly without compromising quality.
