We had the good fortune of connecting with Anjelica Maestas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anjelica, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Boudoir Photography has been deemed taboo in the past, yet a turning event such as the rise of female empowerment has shed a new light on this photography style. Boudoir allows women to essentially strip down into lingerie or their birthday suit to a vulnerable though an empowering experience with me. I have the opportunity to show women, real women what beauty truly means. They see themselves in a new light and realize they don’t need to look like “society” standards. Every woman that I have photographed since the middle of 2020 of starting my business has realized we all real bodies. The stretch marks, the cellulite, the scars, these are natural – not the airbrushed, photoshop looks you see in social media. I am thankful for creating a community that recognizes what real women look like and appreciate themselves in a new light. I am happy to see my business helping women reflect on their mental health as it has correlated to their negative body images that they have had in the past.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the main benefits of doing a boudoir session with me is its not just a photoshoot – its an experience. My time is dedicated to one individual for an entire day. I want every woman to know that the photoshoot is all about her – as it should be. My clients are allowed access to my client closet that features 200+ lingerie items that range from size XS to 4X. The client has the option for complimentary hair and makeup – which you never realize how relaxing it is for you to be pampered by someone else. From hair and makeup, we get right into the photoshoot. Photoshoots last anywhere between 60 – 90 minutes as we converse, laugh and totally hype our client. There is much focus to detail that is implemented in the photoshoot as well. I am always checking for my clients to ensure their lingerie sits correctly, their hair is placed properly, hands in the right spot, and facial expressions done correctly. My posing style is hands on – of course with the consent of my client – to ensure we get the best pose & candid shots during their session. I am proud to offer same day reveals. Yes, you read that right, clients get to see their images in a matter of hours. It is great to send my client off to enjoy alone time with themself as they eat lunch. When they finish, we go through all their images that I have edit. All my clients love their images and I am constantly told they love the fact that I highlight their “flaws” in a new light. They begin to love seeing their cellulite, stretch marks, and scars on their body. My favorite quote from a client is “I know that’s truly me, you did not make me look like an airbrushed version of myself as I have seen other photographers do. I love seeing ME”

It has been a rewarding process to help normalize real bodies, thought this hasn’t always been easy for me to reach this point. Through lots of practice and the help of friends to allow me to get my routine down I have been able to succeed. There is always a market of boudoir education that I have dabbled in and let me say it has been a tremendous help to me as a photographer and business owner.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love the quaint and quirkiness of downtown Greeley. There are many hidden gems in the city but downtown offers an inviting experience. From the arcade bar to the best pizza in my opinion at Right Coast to the fun entertainment found at the Moxi. Local artists have added their favorite murals to the walls that surround this location that are vibrant with color and talent. If I ever want to local walks around the city, I am sure to escape to the natural areas that Greeley has to offer. Specifically the poudre river gives an array of trails to follow at various points through out the city. These natural areas are my favorite during the summer and fall months as they give all the trees the vibrancy to foliage that they hold.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dream of being a creative boudoir photographer would not have been possible without the constant support and push from my husband, Marc. He has never said “I wasn’t able to do anything” and has been by my side through the whole process. As a small business owner, it is difficult sometimes having to do it all by yourself. Yet, I am tremendously thankful that my husband lends an ear for my frustrations and successes. He has invested his time in setting up my sessions, helped create studio pieces and has been the best partner for all the tedious matters that many don’t see in a small business.
