Meet Anna Smith | Floral Artist/Owner at Jackrabbit Floral & Design

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always been a creative, and I also love bringing joy to others. Jackrabbit Floral & Design came about as a way to have a creative outlet, earn a living, and most importantly, be able to stay at home with my 2 littlest children.
I originally started out doing florals for friends and family off and on for many years. As my family grew and I needed to figure out a new job that I could work from home, a friend suggested that I open a floral business. I had just done her wedding florals simply for fun, and I realized I had a talent for it and really enjoyed it! Maybe I could do wedding florals out of my home?
I decided to take my collegiate background in studio art and combine it with my love for florals. In spring 2023 I dove into classes on business, floral design, and started freelancing for a wedding and events floral business for the 2023 summer wedding season. I quickly realized it was the perfect fit for our family’s needs, my creative outlet, and my passion for helping others. Plus, I could definitely do it while staying home with my children!
I did quite a few courses and classes in business, marketing, finance, and floral design during those first few months, while at the same time soft opening my business. It was a lot of late nights and working around family time, but totally worth it!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I want the world to know that I have a genuine care and passion for helping others, and I feel that florals is a way fulfill that. I love to help others experience joy, love, wonder and beauty through flowers!
All of my clients get a unique experience and 100% my attention, care, and expertise. I pride myself on really listening to my clients and creating each floral piece as an artwork, to uniquely convey their vision and style, their personality.
Flowers are an intimate experience, a luxury. I don’t take for granted that they aren’t a necessity in life. But, I also feel that emotional health IS a necessity in life, and flowers can contribute to that!
It has definitely not been easy to get to where I am today. I have had a lot of long nights, then early morning to care for kiddos, tears shed, and definitely humbling moments! However, I am in it for the long haul and embrace the challenge to continually improve and grow so that I can be the best version of myself for my clients and my family.
I know my kids are always watching, and I want them to see that hard work, learning/growing, and constantly turning to Jesus in prayer are normal parts of life and blessings to be thankful for!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Could we just take a week long nap? Just kidding!
If I had some family or friends coming to town, we would definitely be busy getting around Colorado! First, we would have a fun day around Denver. stopping at Mama Jo’s Biscuits & BBQ in Denver for some AMAZING scratch made Carolina BBQ (shoutout to my sis and brother in law’s restaurant!) and then heading to Denver Botanic Gardens to marvel at all of God’s creation. We would head to Coperta in Denver for flavorful seaside Italian dishes, and then finish up at Red Rocks with my whole family to see Forrest Frank, Lecrae, and Chris Tomlin do a collaborative concert and dance till we drop!
The next day we would rent an RV and head to the mountains for a few days, stopping at as many beautiful sites as possible, like the backroads/primitive camping of Keystone and leisurely hiking trails of Breckenridge. We are truly blessed to live in such a scenic state!
We would finish the week back in Denver area, close to my home in Keenesburg, with a relaxing day at a few local beer gardens/breweries, like Green Valley Ranch Beer Garden and Big Choice Brewing, sipping on some cold ones, playing a few board games, and having great conversation.
We’d end our last night listening to a great podcast by Pastor Jack Hibbs and watching the sun set over our 5 acres, counting our blessings, because face to face connection with family and friends is what it’s all about!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All the credit for my success and skills goes to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I filter all of my life’s choices through the lense of the Bible and with prayer, and I feel truly blessed for all of the ups, downs, tough learning moments and incredible joys that have shaped me into who I am today, and who I am still becoming!
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
God has also put great people in my life who have helped me along the way these past few years, like my husband and other family, who care for our kiddos when I have a wedding day that takes me to the mountains for the day, other wedding professionals whom I can also call friends, who give guidance in business choices and floral skills, and talented freelancers as my business has grown, so that I can give as much focus and attention to my kids as possible!
So much to be thankful for!
