Meet Annette Thull | Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Annette Thull and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Annette, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have been actively involved in Lafayette since moving here 21 years ago. I have been on the Old Town Lafayette Association (LOTA) board, President of Alicia Sanchez Elementary PTA, volunteered to put on Home for the Holidays and have helped market numerous events and local businesses. I have worked with the City of Lafayette helping to market events such as Art Night Out and Music Goes Public. I created the City of Lafayette logo. I have worked with the Chamber of Lafayette to market several events as well: 4th of July Celebration, Peach Festival and Quaker Oatmeal Festival. I currently volunteer with the Centaurus High School organizations: the Quarterback Club and The Rosin Club (CHS Orchestra.)
What I observed, is that all of these organizations and businesses need a way to market their events that is free or low cost. It took me two years to come up with a solution to help local organizations, businesses and residents. My answer was to create www.lafayettecoevents.com. The website provides a resource to help market any event happening in Lafayette. It is a great alternative to social media to discover what is happening in our community.

What should our readers know about your business?
Nothing worth doing is easy. But doing what you love is key and it makes it easier. I have been a graphic designer since college and I love being able to help people market their businesses and creations. I love the challenge of helping to organize their thoughts, images, and information to create an effective ad, logo or well laid out brochure.
I created www.lafayettecoevents.com to create community and to help people promote their events. The more businesses post their events, the better the site will be, and the more effective it will be for ALL businesses holding events in Lafayette. That’s the beautiful thing, that everyone helps everyone else by posting their own events. I like to think of it as a marketing co-op, of sorts.
All events are free to post. An event can be a summer camp, sale event, festival, live music or art performance, fundraising event, class, art opening, or any other kind of event. The home page has a list view of events as well as Featured Event ads that can be purchased. The Calendar page allows for events to be searched by tag or date and has an image to help describe it. Submitting an event is easy. Just fill out form on the Submit Event page. For businesses who want to call special attention to their event, advertising can be purchased for a very low amount, which was another of my goals: low-cost advertising. The advertising helps to pay for hosting and subscription fees to have the site up.
The challenge has been to get businesses to submit their events and to share the site on their social media pages, again the more followers we get, the more effective the site and social media pages are for everyone. I do try to post events as I see them, but it’s hard to get them all.
For those wanting less social media, www.LafayetteCoEvents.com is a great alternative to stay connected with local events happening in Lafayette. Although, we do have both Facebook and Instagram pages for Lafayette Co Events that further help to market events listed on the site.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lafayette has so many great spots and businesses to support. For breakfast or coffee, I would be sure to take them to The Read Queen to enjoy a scone and hot drink. Or if it’s a Sunday, we would visit Day Day Up Tea, the only authentic Chinese Tea House in Colorado, where we may get a Boba or hot tea and light savory breakfast and then have our Tarot Cards read. Or we would go to Otis Craft Collective for coffee and then get amazing donuts at Nok’s or a breakfast burrito at Button Rock. We might take a walk around town or go onto Coal Creek Trail or around Waneka Lake. Then, for lunch we go to The Pita Grill or Tip Top Savory Pies. Afterwards we take a stroll through the Lafayette Flea and Due South. Dinner at Pho Cafe is a must. Afterwards we go bowling at Coal Creek Bowling and then we dance the night away at Nissi’s or listen to live music at Muse Performance Space or The End Lafayette. The day after dancing the night away, I’d make sure we have healing sessions with Choose Healing Center. It’s even better if my friend is visiting in October, during the Lafayette Music Fest, where there is live music all over town!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to all the local businesses, individuals and organizations who have events and have struggled with marketing and getting the word out.
