We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Meyers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I think almost everyone can agree that taking your work issues home with you once you’ve clocked out is fowl beyond reasoning. Oh boy, then working weekends…yuck! That’s all I’ve ever known since Junior year of high school. Always picking up shifts on your day off, on your feet 24/7, and working weekends. I must say its taught me a lot, especially how to be a good team player. Plus those extra shifts balanced out to extra cash for concert tickets and dancing the night away with fabulous friends.

These days, I’m happy to say, I’ve realized how equally important the mind and body are. There needs to be balance with work. Having control of my hours means I can feed my soul with sunshine, take care of my body, and spend time in nature. It also allows me to give my clients the proper time and care they deserve because I am able to adjust their appointments to each clients needs. It was difficult to balance it all, especially when working for someone else. I had no control over scheduling and I only got to interact with my clients for their service. I knew I needed to create an environment where I can give my clients exactly what they need and I would be able to control my schedule.

The years of hard work and nonstop hustle did pay off. I learned many skills like working under pressure, multitasking, saving money from working extra hours… the list goes on. But now, I realize that even with the fun and excitement that came with hustling, I needed to slow down and focus on what I am really good at. Waxing and helping my clients. I think the pandemic really put that into perspective for all of us.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I accept all people and I truly mean it! We all deserve to find comfort in our own skin. I know what it feels like to be shy about revealing your true self or worried what others may think. Its far from fun. Ive noticed most of the waxing industry seems geared more towards cis-women. What about the men? What about all of the LGBTQ+ community? Everyone deserve a wax and to be able to not have to question “Will I or my body be accepted here?” I felt that way growing up as a queer woman. My dream was to create a space where everyone can come in, get an excellent services they want to bring out their confidence and beauty.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Fort Collins and there is surely a lot to offer here. Now that its summer time, a weekday trip to Horsetooth for some paddle boarding is always on my list of fun. On the way down afterwards It’s hard to pass up a delicious DiMatteo pizza and alcoholic slushy from JJs wood fire pizza! If youre looking for even more excitement I always recommend Mountain WhiteWater rafting up the Cache La Poudre River. The Guides there are very skilled in what they do and make sure you have a fun and safe time on your trip down the river. Afterwards they have a beautiful open space bar, called The Paddlers Pub, where you can relax and enjoy the Mountain View’s with a refreshing drink. There’s also a ton of breakfast places in Fort Collins but my new favorite is at The Regional. They make delectable Gluten free blue corn chicken and waffles. I’m not even gluten free but its worth a fork dive in!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Making the leap into owning my own business has been like the wildest roller coaster you’ve ever been on. To my partner Dylan, thank you for being the seat belt of credence holding me down from jumping ship. Your love and support has always lifted me to believe in myself.

I also want to thank my friend and CrossFit coach Lauren for inspiring me and being a fabulous mentor whenever I needed help. She has always made leaps and bounds in her life and career with a ray of sunshine always on her face. If that’s not inspiring, I don’t know what is.
