We had the good fortune of connecting with Atiba! The Rocky Mountain Dragon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Atiba!, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
The balance that you have to bring to pro wrestling and your life is a hard one. At the current stage I’m at for my wrestling career, it is hard to balance all the things I have to do for wrestling! You have to go train, study film, eat well, go to the gym, and character study! And the shows as well! Unlike some school program, the individual has to keep themself accountable for all of that; on top of their own personal stuff. This is why I find the balance hard. Personally I have definitely scaled back a tiny bit on how much I used to train. Having relationships that I want to sustain now made me decide that I should divvy up my time differently. But balance is always gonna be hard. A challenge I gratefully accept.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am Atiba the Rocky Mountain Dragon. A pro wrestler on the rise!!! I have always considered myself one of the most balanced wrestlers, bringing athleticism, strength, and speed to a happy medium. My character is what sets me apart though. Think old school Kung Fu movies, think Jackie Chan! Think the Last Dragon. I am a wrestler with a relentless energy!
I am very, very proud of the fact that I have so far made it through some of the vast wrestling landscape with no drama. This is one of the industries where egos can run very high, so it’s easy to end up on someone’s black list, by no real fault of your own. Not to mention the myriad of shady people that unfortunately have gravitated to this art form I love. It is hard at times to keep motivated, but I love the cleanup that has gone on within wrestling. It’s nowhere near perfect right now, but if we can keep stepping in the right direction, I’m feeling real optimistic!
All I want the world to know about my brand is I am slowly and steadily working my way up to the top! One step at a time is all you need. There’s always hundreds of things out there to focus on, but you will be ASHAMED if you miss out on the epic ascent of Atiba!!!! Please support me, and all local wrestling! 🐲
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Here in Denver there’s so much to be able to go, see, and do. I would definitely take them over to try some of the restaurants on Broadway, but I would mainly show them this Cuban food spot in Aurora. Cuba Bakery and Cafe! They will fall in love with the food so quick, just like I did!
Taking them out for drinks? We’re definitely hitting up Bierstadt Lagerhaus, where I also perform for Rocky Mountain Pro! Listen to that night. Great drinks, and GREAT wrestling?! What more could you ask for?
I think if we were up for it we’d visit one of the nice trails Colorado has. Chautauqua is usually first on my list, but there’s literally hundreds of places to decide.
Of course I’m gonna put over the pro wrestling scene of CO! There are so many promotions with great people in Colorado, I’ll name them all! You got:
– Rocky Mountain Pro
– Lucha Libre and Laughs
– Hugo’s Lucha Libre
– Colorado Springs Wrestling
– New Era Wrestling
– Primo’s Pro Wrestling
– IWC
There are so many talented people at these shows, come check any one of these out!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s so many people that deserve credit in my story, but today I will focus on my parents. My Mama and Baba have always been very supportive of this dream I have. Ever since I started and told them that pro wrestling is what I wanted to do, they’ve helped me get on my feet. I remember my Mama looking up wrestling schools in the area, cause at first I was just gonna move to a different state to the only school I’d ever heard of! My Baba is always checking in with me and making sure my goals are realistic, and that I have a plan that is being executed well. He asks me questions about my character to help me think out what would be best. That and the fact that he wants to come out to the ring with me every time I wrestle! To them I am eternally grateful, so thank you Mama and Baba.
