Meet Austin Pray | Business Owner of 7, Dad of 3, Husband of 1

We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Pray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Austin, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When I first started my business(s) I was younger with no responsibility really, could focus 100% on just business. Fast forward 10 years later, I now have a family with my wife and three kids… I need to have balance or else I will either have to choose to neglect either my business or my family, which is not an option. To balance my life, I have to set boundaries. Just like a river, a river without boundaries would cause a flood… same would happen with my business, happiness and ultimately my family if I didn’t have boundaries, I would drown! That being said, knowing the art of saying no, ask other businesses for help with my work load, the art of partnering with others and learning leadership skills has all helped me balance my “work, life, play”.

What should our readers know about your business?
Short answer is… business should never be easy or else it would be called luck and investments to the business come easy. That being said, owning your own business is not for everyone. In some aspect of that, knowing how to say no to headache clients is a skill only learned from expertise. When you fail in business you want to quit and most do, however those who get back up stronger are those who succeed more. I have actually built my marketing brand around that. I help others succeed based off how I have failed or how my clients have failed. Every experience is just an experience. I’m not any better than any other marketing firm, but what you buy into is my experience. I have failed a lot (ha). Not anymore though.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hands down, the best trip in town would be to golf just the local Hyland Hills Blue Course or Legacy Ridge as personal opinion, they have some of the best views of the mountains on some of the holes without forking out a million dollars to play. After 18 I would go eat thee best mexican food at Efrains in Lafayette and then shoot over to the Eldorado Canyon for a hike or just to drink a gallon of the best water ever! For a little night cap I would go to where it all started for me at now my step-brothers bar Park Center Lounge to sing Karaoke any day of the week.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Growing up in a small business in Westminster, CO, I would thank my professional chaos success to my mom and the step family that owned the small karaoke bar for letting me be apart of all the operations at such a young age. It helped shape my immature brain, into a more matured brain while 18 years of age. I would hear some of the best business growth stories just by talking to them across the bar.
