Meet Sam Reeve

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Reeve and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sam, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Most people think compensation consulting is just about salaries and bonuses. But here’s the truth: you can have market-leading pay and still lose great people if the workforce experience is broken. Most consultants stop at pay—it’s a spreadsheet exercise. We go further.
We ask: Does your pay attract the right talent? Does it keep them engaged and inspired to stay? And what about the other essentials—meaningful work, career development, recognition, culture, and benefits that truly fit your people’s lives? Pay is just one lever. The real ROI comes when it works in harmony with the entire employee experience.
At CompTeam, we design Total Rewards strategies that connect competitive, fair pay with the elements that make work worth doing—so you don’t just hire great people, you keep them performing at their best for years.

What should our readers know about your business?
CompTeam helps organizations design Total Rewards strategies—compensation, recognition, career frameworks—that are not only competitive and compliant but also deeply connected to the employee experience. What sets us apart is that we don’t just “price jobs.” We weave pay strategy into the bigger picture—meaningful work, growth opportunities, culture, and trust—so companies can hire great people and keep them thriving.
It hasn’t been easy. Building a boutique global consultancy meant competing with giant firms while staying true to our people-first approach. We overcame that by focusing on personalization, storytelling, and delivering practical, high-impact solutions clients can actually use.
I’m proud that we’ve built a team known for technical expertise and empathy, trusted by tech companies, nonprofits, and multinationals. The lesson? Success comes from aligning rewards with both business goals and human needs. If the world knows one thing about us, it’s that we design pay strategies that people believe in.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit Durango, I’d give them a week of the full mountain experience. We’d start with a summer hike up Engineer Mountain, where in July the wildflowers put on a show that stops you in your tracks. Midweek, we’d head toward Silverton and hike to Ice Lakes—there’s nothing like the shock of seeing that crystal-blue water tucked in at 12,000 feet.
Evenings would be about unwinding. One night we’d soak at Trimble Lane Hot Springs, beer in hand, listening to local folk musicians under a sky full of stars. Other nights, we’d wander downtown for great food—maybe a burger at Carvers or a craft cocktail at the local speakeasy, the Bookcase and Barber.
By the end of the week, they’d have sore legs, a full belly, and a new appreciation for why I think Durango is the pinnacle of outdoor living.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a big shoutout to my friend and collaborator, Sumit Singla, co-author of The Workforce Experience. Sumit is one of those rare professionals who combines deep HR expertise with a genuine passion for improving how people experience work. His insights on culture, leadership, and employee engagement have shaped not only the book we wrote together, but also the way I approach client work every day. He has a gift for cutting through complexity, making ideas practical, and keeping the focus on what truly matters—creating workplaces where people thrive. Working with Sumit has been a masterclass in collaboration, curiosity, and purpose. I’m grateful for his partnership and the impact he’s had on my journey.
