We had the good fortune of connecting with Ava Ericksen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ava, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind my business was : I started my dog treats business so I can help shelters and rescues across the country by donating 20% of my profits to different ones each month. Shelters and rescues are short on money and that’s why I donate to them.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am 8 years old and in second grade. I go to school every day except for the weekends and I bake treats after school or on the weekends. Sometimes I only bake treats when orders come in. My mom signs me up to go to different events and markets to sell my treats., like the Roller Derby (My first vending event).
I have learned how to make different types of treats from recipes and what I’ve learned from the business is that my donations have really helped out so many shelter animals.
I want the world to know that I really love animals and I love to save them from being put down. Especially if they don’t get adopted. I have three rescue dogs and I wish that I could have more. I hope that one day I am able to donate a lot of money by selling a lot of treats.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend to Meow Wolf because it was super cool. I also would take my best friend to CSU SPUR. They have animal clinics with huge windows so you can watch cats and dogs surgeries and dentist.
We would go to eat at Golden Corral because you can choose the food you eat and there’s desert.
We would go to eat ice-cream at NUGGS and Andy’s Custard.
I like going on hikes in the mountains, around the Evergreen Lake, where the prairie dogs are..
I like to hang out with daddy’s friends from Softball. We go every Monday.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my mama and daddy for supporting me and encouraging me to do this business and to do good things. I want to shout out to No Kill Colorado for helping rescues and shelters by donating money for adoptions, spay and neuter clinics, etc.
