We had the good fortune of connecting with Ava Rose Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ava Rose, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Because most everyone listens to music and the product I put out is meaningful and will help people through real life situations! Music is a vehicle. It can take you through feelings of emotions and being able to express your thoughts and feelings in a healthy and entertaining way!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a music artist, singer songwriter, and also starting out as a small child performing, there were small challenges. However being Osage and Cherokee, I have been able to over come challenges and found that my gifts of song have been recognized throughout the world including, the Native American Music Awards. Some thing I am most proud of is that at age of 12 (in 2019) I made history as being the youngest to ever win a Native American Music Award for my song “Heaven’s Window” that I co-wrote with Billy Dawson, Lainey Edwards, Sean Fuller, (former drummer for Florida Georgia Line)in memory of my friend Behr Place, who passed away in an ATV accident. I was also the youngest to win in 2021, The Next Gen Under 30 Award in The Arts category. I also have been nominated in 2022 for 3 Native American Music Awards as Best Female Vocalist, Best Country Recording and Best Pop Video for my song “There’s A Boy”. That song made it #2 on The Indigenous Music Countdown and plays on several XM Radio stations. The Awards Gala is scheduled for November 19th in Niagara Falls. I would say that overcoming challenges due to my young age is something i am most proud of. I know that hard work, dedication and being kind will always help you along the way to achieving your dreams. A few days before my big release of “Heaven’s Window” I had a dream of my friend, Behr. It was all so real to me and it really gave confirmation of some things in my life. I knew I had to write a song about my dream and so I did. The sequel to “Heaven’s Window”, “You Were Just A Dream” was just released the end of July 2022.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ok-so if I had my best friend coming with me to Denver, I would definitely say staying at The Sheraton downtown is great! The location is amazing – to be in the hub of everything! The Yardhouse is always a must for me! This place has such a fun, high energy place with a young crowd there just having a blast! Also another place is Maggiano’s Little Italy! Their food is at the next level! Their desserts are outstanding! The atmosphere has a touch of elegance. It is a place to go to have a variety of food, like you could have a pizza, a phenomenally cooked steak, any kind of pasta and more! I enjoy walking and shopping at the 16th Street Mall, drinking coffee in the fun little coffee shops on 16th street, the Denver Pavilion, Cherry Creek Shopping Center, skating to the music at City Skate Outdoor Skating Rink. Also enjoying such visual arts in Downtown Denver and listening to live music and amazing talent at Outer Space. Another must is the Selfie Museum, of course!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to thank the amazingly talented and most hard working, kind person I know, Billy Dawson for investing in me, recognizing my talent, working with me and helping me, and opening many doors in the country music industry! I would like to thank my parents for always pushing me to do the best of my abilities and always supporting me!
