We had the good fortune of connecting with Avery Palic and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Avery, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Giving a person a tattoo is far more intimate than some understand. There is a different, yet simple connection made with a person when they have picked you and your art to permanently mark their body. The process of physically letting someone cause you pain for hours let’s people reach this deep side of themselves which then leads to some of the wildest conversations I would say I’ve ever had. I have made countless friends through this line of work and I hope the memory makes the new tattoo all the better. The art world draws all walks of life and it’s an absolute pleasure to be able to experience all of it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I most excited to see where art goes in the future. It’s a forever growing community with constant knowledge being passed around. This journey has been a major lesson that I will continue to learn from. I’ve come to know that the only person that can tell you no is yourself, if you want it that bad you will get it. Knowledge is power and you can never know enough.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m very new to the front range area but there’s plenty to do here. Meow Wolf is easily one of the coolest places I’ve ever been to. I work in Lyons which is very close to Estes and I’ve heard the most amazing things about it. Pearl street in Boulder is very easy to spend an entire day dedicated to shopping along with eating delicious food, Abbot & Wallace distillery has been one of my favorite places to get drinks since I have moved up here. There’s so many things to do here and it’s all pretty fantastic.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s absolutely plenty to be thankful for. My better half Ben for pushing me outside of my box. My brother Gunnar, who let me practice on him when we both knew I had no idea what I was doing. My entire family for helping me to pursue my art career. Derek Martinez for teaching me everything I know about tattooing. Serina Malec for giving me a new home to tattoo in, introducing me to the most amazing women. I’m so thankful for the people I meet, the people I know, and the people I will meet.
