We had the good fortune of connecting with bahar esmaili and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi bahar, what do you attribute your success to?
Vision and perseverance are my driving forces. Failure is not in my vocabulary; I only fail if I never try. I easily get bored, so seeking new ways keeps me motivated. I love learning, reading, researching new heights every single day. I consider every day a gift to learn something new. and feel blessed to have the opportunity to do it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a dentist by training, but I am very passionate about the interconnectedness of the human body – from head and neck posture to jaw joint alignment, facial muscle tonicity, and gait. The compensations the body makes can lead to a variety of symptoms that are often treated individually, rather than addressing the body as a whole. Along this journey, I have learned that health is the most important asset we have. Unfortunately, the lifestyle, food industry, and pharmaceutical sectors often focus on disease rather than wellness.
I was born and raised in Iran and immigrated to the United States when I was 20 years old . Growing up during the war and poverty , I witnessed human suffering and knew I wanted to become a doctor to help alleviate it.
After 10 years of practicing dentistry, I began noticing the relationship between crooked teeth and misalignment in the body. This realization was a pivotal point in my career. I have spent nearly five years exploring how malocclusion is related to the most important function of the body: the function of airway and how breathing.
As a dentist I believe that patient is more than just a mouth full of teeth; they are an intricate machine designed to function in complete harmony.
Unfortunately, the medical community does not always share this understanding. Doctors often treat isolated symptoms without considering the whole person, and care is usually delayed until the patient is already in a substantially dysfunctional state. Even then, symptoms are treated individually without considering the unifying culprit. This approach to medicine is not sustainable and causes great harm to the patient.
Evaluating a patient’s posture, as well as key markers in their mouth such as tongue creases, frenula attachment, jaw alignment, enlarged tonsils , compromised nasal pathway and others could present a complete picture of the current state of the patient’s airway as well as how their body has adapted to try to fix it – often in ways that lead to long-term harm for the body, all just to ensure their next breath. Tension headaches, behavioral issues, sleeping disorders, emotional status, and overall health can be drastically improved if the medical community worked in concert with one another.
I am on a quest to educate as many parents and patients as possible to understand the ‘why’ behind the ‘what’ of the issues for which they’re seeking help.
My mission is to bridge the gap in my profession and help younger dentists become comprehensive physician for both the head and the neck, from malocclusion to airway breathing and myo-functional dysfunction to TMD and neck posture. All of these areas can potentially lead to teeth malocclusion, referred pain, joint and muscle dysfunction, headaches, behavioral issues, and more. Teeth are not the only part of the story, and they should not be a distraction to the dental profession. Instead of repairing teeth the goal is to heal the patient.
The journey has thought me so much and has brought me so much joy to see people gaining control of their health and sharing their gift with the world, I know what i do is no longer a job but keeps me going. It allows me to meet so many people , help them in their healing path and that is truly the purpose in life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the ocean and everything related to it. One food I will never get bored of is sushi; I think there is a new flavor in every bite, and the possibilities are just unlimited. I also love exploring nature and seeing God’s footprint on Earth.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my success to my savior, Jesus Christ. I know I have been chosen to be on this path and to share the gift He gave me with mankind. The Bible is the book that saved me and set me on the right path. During the pandemic, I had a revelation in my life and career. After practicing dentistry for 10 years, I began to understand how modernization has affected all aspects of health, including the growth and development of the jaws, face, and teeth. I could not unsee what I was seeing. My five-year quest to connect these dots has made one thing clear: straight teeth cannot function in misaligned bodies.
I also want to dedicate my success to this amazing country I now call home. I am truly living the American Dream. Immigrating to the United States has afforded me the opportunity to dream big. When I was 14 years old, I had two dreams: to speak English fluently and to become a doctor.
