We had the good fortune of connecting with Barbara Perea and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barbara, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
One thing I did early on was practice conscious listening. As I take tome to get to know my clients meeds i carefully apply those to the styling process. Making mental notes of specifics. I also have noticed people feel I may have a better idea or plan for their hairstyle buy I feel if you actually apply the ideas from the initial conversation you can be creative and give them the best rendition of what they are wanting. I see clients for an hour and they live with their hair until their next visit. They know their hair better than I do. However , my skill set can make their wishes come true.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Early on I virtually studied the work every hair artist that inspired me. Over a 10 year period I found there was something fabulous they each had to offer. During this process I gradually developed a system for creating haircuts that allows me to work with each individuals ideas to create their style.
I sometimes suggest they bring a group of photos of hair styles they like and dissect what section of each photo interests them.
I can then apply this to the head in my method to expand the creative process along with applying the three dimensional process to give them a balance easy to care for look that is appealing specifically to them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Make you way to Lafayette. Visit the Treasures Upscale consignment store for a look around. Just around the corner from the discover Jeannots Patisserie . Stop by for an authentic french treat. Delicious almond croissant and a comfortable outdoor patio for enjoying a beautiful day.

Take a ride to Boulder and take a view from Baseline road on Flagstaff.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Lately I have been watching dayrate.com on instagram. I find their enthusiasm and the idea of their product line fascinating. Who would have thought if making hair pins in all lengths and all colors. They did.

I love their choices when i have a wedding or while doing party hair.
One leas thing to think about is to conceal the pins to make the magic happen.
