We had the good fortune of connecting with Becka Payne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Becka, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I believe my business impacts my community and the world, by improving the lives of parents and children. Sleep is a basic biological need and without sleep, all people are unable to function to their full potential. Just like we focus on proper nutrition for our children and ourselves, when we focus on our sleep everything improves.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My whole life I have always worked with children (or on their behalf) in one way or another. I started babysitting when I was 11 years old and the rest kind of followed. After college I worked in Child Protection for 5 years which is the “hardest job [I’ve} ever loved.” After that, I was a supervisor in Child Support, helping children to receive the financial and medical support they need and deserve. From there, I started my own in-home daycare which I operated for three and a half years, overlapping my time as a Sleeper Teacher. Now my main “job” is being a mom of two and helping support other parents teach their kids the skill of independent sleep! As I was growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a mom but aside from that I never had a dream job. I have felt like each job was a good fit and each one led me to the next but I never felt like I “made it” until I joined Sleeper Teachers. It truly is a life changing career for me and that is because I get to see first hand how I improve the lives of others.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in Northern Colorado are usually centered around good food. My favorite breakfast spots are Snooze and Urban Egg in Fort Collins. I also like First Watch in Windsor. From there, we would probably spend some time going in and out of the stores in Old Town Fort Collins, get a pedicure at Velvet Files and then get a good drink on the roof of The Elizabeth hotel or underground at Social. Lately, my favorite dinner restaurants are either Tavern or Pizza Vino in Windsor. After dinner, to work off some of those carbs, I would end the day with a walk around Windsor Lake.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a few people that deserve a little credit! To start, my daughter for not sleeping well for the first 9 months of her life, which led me to being a client of Sleeper Teachers. Second, my husband for supporting my decision and putting in the work to “teach sleep” to her 3 years ago and for always encouraging me to follow whatever direction my career takes me. And last, but certainly not least, to the team of Sleeper Teachers who believe in community over competition, supporting each other and families, and who are never afraid of solving problems together. The biggest shoutout to Brittney Stefanic for building this team and bringing us all together!
