We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Fox and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ben, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always wanted to start my own business. I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. My parents ran a management consulting firm when I was growing up and my sister has her own consultancy too. It was never a question of if but when I would jump into the crazy world of entrepreneurship. I have had the opportunity to work directly for 4 business owners over the last 10 years and I learned what it takes to run a successful company. When I was laid off in late 2018 and got a nice severance package – it was time to make my move. My wife and I were very nervous, but we always bet on ourselves and together we started Matrix Events.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Matrix Events is a corporate event management company specializing in corporate experiences. We pivoted hard to virtual events and now we’re busier than ever. this new virtual event landscape is scary for everyone, especially our clients. We make the process easy for them and we are highly accomodating with the inevitable changes because we know they are learning too. Do you need a virtual whiskey tasting next week – yes we can. Do you need a celebrity to speak at your event – yes we can. We also never nickel and dime our clients. Our price is our price and we don’t want to put clients in an awkward position of going back to their boss for more money. And finally, we care – sometimes even more than our clients. We take great pride and put our hearts into every project and we like even the tough feedback because we know it makes us better and more able to deliver excellence to our clients.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Golden, CO, a suburb of Denver. For visitors to my hood, we definitely take them on a hike in the mountains, stroll on Washington Ave and take in the great vibes of our little mountain village and of course check out a local brewery like New Terrain. After checking out Golden (it’s small), I wouild definitely bring them to see Red Rocks, the Rino district, and 16th street Mall just becasue you have to check out downtown Denver.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Whatever success I’ve ever had ties directly back to my childhood and how I was raised. Big shoutout to my parents and the community I grew up in. I had every opportunity to do and learn anything I wanted growing up. My natural curiosity and hard work led to many opportunities that eventually led me around the world several times and to where I am today.
