We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Franke and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ben, how do you define success?
Having good and meaningful relationships in your life, and paying your rent on time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I enjoy capturing different subcultures of people and interesting characters, usually ones based around movement but also around a shared passion or vision. I’ve photographed parkour athletes who have jumped over 17 ft roof gaps, rode my bike on the FDR photographing bike riders, and worked with extreme pogo jumpers who can clear a 12 ft tall hurdle. The collaboration with people and getting to capture and tell a bit of their story is something I love doing.

Doing this work has had its ups and downs but you have to trust the process and continue shooting what you are most interested in and passionate about.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents for supporting what I do and my teachers, especially those in high school for giving me the photo bug early on and helping develop my interest in photography.
