We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Vargas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ben, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Ann Arbor Michigan and moved around a bit. Ann Arbor is a very liberal town very excepting of people of different walks of life. There I met people who introduced me to coops and vegetarian ism this starting my journey in health and wellness. In the early 90’s my mother introduced me to kombucha and we started brewing it at home long before GT’s. I’ve worked at the original Whole Foods and the flagship store. In the mid 90’s I learned the horrors of the egg and dairy industry and knew that being vegetarian wasn’t enough so I became vegan. Then in 2000 I quit drinking alcohol and started to lean in heavily on kombucha. In 2016 I met my business partner and we had a dream of making this a business. We moved out of Austin Texas to Denver to make that dream come true in a new fresh market.
What should our readers know about your business?
We are a Herbal Kombucha company based out of Denver, Colorado. We are animal & nature lovers & have been studying the medicinal power of plants/ fermentation for over a decade. We are fascinated by the alchemy & synergistic powers of herbs, barks, mushrooms, fruits & love to come up with brews that target specific areas of the human physiology. We officially started Three Kings in 2019 with the mission to provide the community with low sugar, low acidity, throughly satisfying delicious probiotic brews that show people the diversity & utility of the plant kingdom with a hands on educational approach.
We are dedicated to lowering our environmental footprint and are firm believers in organic & sustainably grown/ sourced ingredients, highly passionate about working with local farmers & seasonal products. We look into nature for inspiration & use 100% compostable/ recyclable products (cans)

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to meow wolf first. Then we need to hit up the mountains and some hot springs. We will eat out a lot at vegan restaurants like somebody people , easy vegan , v revolution, vegan van and the hungry tree hugger. Always keeping an eye on sunsets against the mountains.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my mom who introduced me to kombucha. And Francesca my business partner who encouraged me to have faith and take the leap.
