Meet Beth Bogdewiecz | Entrepreneur / Copywriter / Life Enthusiast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Beth Bogdewiecz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Beth, what role has risk played in your life or career?
There are currently over 7 million people on the planet. You can either think “nothing that I do matters because my existence is a blip” or “nothing that I do matters so why not make my existence everything that I’ve ever dreamed of”. I have always believed that the latter is what is important. So what if you try and fail? You’re a blip!
Especially when it comes to women, risk is extra challenging. We are more likely to avoid taking risks than men. Yet there are studies that show that when we just take chances or try – even if we think the answer is wrong – we not only perform the same as men, but sometimes better!
One of the biggest risks I took in my career was deciding to go freelance, and leave a steady corporate job at which I was very unhappy. I realized I’d spent so much time asking the question: “What’s the worst that could happen?” when I should have been also asking: “What’s the BEST that could happen?” I had no connections, only a basic understanding of what I needed to do to succeed, and just 2 measly months of rent saved up. And you know what? I figured it out. It was terrifying, yes. Risks are scary… but the rewards? The rewards are so totally worth it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve started to understand that nothing in life is “all or nothing”. I used to be crippled by indecision, unsure of whether the path I was taking or the choice I was making was the one that was best for me. So I’d just stay in place. Now I understand that there are so many options – and that there are endless! I can change my mind, change directions, start over. I still take the time to process a decision, but I don’t let it stop me from moving forward. Because even if I made the wrong choice and have to go back to where I started, that’s still progress.
The Bike Dress is a good example of that. I’ve never started a clothing company before, and there has been a lot to learn along the way. The idea came out of our desire to create something that filled our own personal need, hoping that others would resonate with our concept. And it turns out, they do! So many people are following and supporting us on this journey, and it’s so exciting. We have hit our roadblocks and yet we reassess and keep moving. No matter what happens in the future, the experience has been completely worthwhile – and I’ve learned so much about myself throughout the process.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would absolutely take them to Grandma’s House – my favorite brewery in Denver! And it’s decorated like a real grandma’s house – who doesn’t love that? While I’m down that way I’d take them to “Fifty Two 80’s A Totally Awesome Shop” which I just discovered as well for a healthy dose of nostalgia.
Watercourse for a delicious comfort-food brunch (without the meat), and a walk around City Park – maybe even a visit to the Natural Science museum or the zoo. Since we’re that way, browsing books at Tattered Cover when it’s fully open again!
Then we could hop on our bikes (in The Bike Dress, naturally), and cycle down to RiNo to check out any outdoor events going on, and taste cider at Stem (the BEST).
Oh, and I’d absolutely take an adventure out to Sweet Bloom coffee in Lakewood for the best coffee on the planet.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My sister, Amber Bogdewiecz (who I am starting The Bike Dress with), has been constant support and inspiration for me. She’s also hilarious and thinks I’m hilarious too.
“The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance – What Women Should Know” written by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman. Every woman should read this book! They use scientific studies and expert interviews to address the issue of women & confidence, and it has really helped discover how to shed the past and be a stronger, more confident woman for the future.
The Minimalists. Their books and their blog really inspired me to take a leap of faith and start living my life in an entirely new way. https://www.theminimalists.com/
The Ologies Podcast. If there’s any podcast out there that is a beautiful, educational depiction of finding your own unique brand of weird (and getting paid for it), Ologies really hits the mark. https://www.alieward.com/ologies
