We had the good fortune of connecting with Beth Corlett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Beth, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Good Stretch Yoga was created out of my passion to teach yoga outside of a studio, in a personal way and in a way that was authentic to me. If you don’t fit a mold, than create your own path. I wanted to offer one-on-one lessons for everyone, no matter what their limitations or challenges. Meeting my clients in the comfort and safety of their own home, allows them to open up in a way they wouldn’t necessarily in a studio. I didn’t feel this really existed before in an accessible way. I never really intended to start a business, it just naturally evolved. I had students requesting more personal instruction, questions on poses they had been struggling with for years and advice and guidance on preventing and working around injuries. I took on a few private clients as a side business and it’s grown since then. I’ve always felt that if something is right it will develop organically and Good Stretch certainly has.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What I’d want the world to know is that yoga is not only for the skinny, flexible and young, it’s for everybody and every body. It’s not a pretty Instagram shot on the beach. Warrior II is not just a pose, it’s a pose that embodies strength, grace and vitality, it encourages focus and calmness of the mind, it promotes balance and stability, it it’s a hip opener, it’s a leg burner. It’s what you need it to be and what you learn from it at that moment in time. I started practicing yoga during a difficult time in my life just to get some movement in every day and to focus my mind on something else. It did that, and more. To say it’s changed my life profoundly is an understatement. I want to bring that feeling to everyone. Every day I get to wake up and know that I will be helping someone takes steps towards their goal and possibly change their life in the way that finding yoga has changed mine. Whether it be to have more daily movement or find tools for creating a calm and centered life. That is my inspiration every day. It takes a lot of courage to send an email or make a phone call and hold yourself accountable to changing how you feel, both inside and out. It is not easy to change, it is even less easy to stay consistent. I love that my students show up to their practice and I’m proud of them. When people think of Good Stretch I want them to feel safe, heard and inspired. I want them to know they are just not another student in a class. I listen, I create, I tailor and adjust so that they have the class that they wanted and needed. I want them to look forward to movement every day like I do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve lived here for 25 years and still have a bucket list. I’d take a visitor to Rocky Mountain National Park, Red Rocks for a show, Garden of the Gods, take a road trip to Telluride. In Denver, we walk through RiNo for the scene and the art, maybe Coors Field for a game. We get a rooftop cocktail and a great dinner, my favorites are Kawa Ni, Uchi, Tavernetta. Now I’m hungry. There’s so much to do here, every day can be an adventure.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d have to thank my parents first. I was raised in a middle class family in New Jersey, my parents worked hard to provide a nice life for us. They taught me that nothing is handed to you and to work hard for what you want. Also, my company would not be where it is without the support and encouragement of my friends and my partner, Trent. They were my first students, when I was a new teacher and they are loyal to the core. Wearing my merchandise and help spreading the word, coming to group classes when no one else was there. Helping me build the company in the way I wanted, offering suggestions, input and support. I could never thank them enough. Oh and my dog Revere, who always enjoys a good deep stretch and was my inspiration.
